Hey Alexis 🙂 You just released your highly anticipated EP, Things Get Good! What do you hope your supporters will think of the new music? & What do you hope they’ll get from hearing your new songs?
Hey! Yes, I did. I honestly hope that they love it as much as I do for the most part! There are so many different themes and messages, so I hope they get something from each song. I want women to feel empowered from songs like “Polite,” energetic and excited from “In This” and maybe a little sappy with “Walls.” I hope people can relate to the songs and know they’re not alone if they’ve gone through similar experiences.
Can you tell us the backstory of the new EP? Is it from a real experience?
Yeah! All the songs on the EP are from my experiences. I talk about love, lust, fake friends, starting a relationship, vulnerability, and empowerment, and they’re all from what I’ve experienced in the last couple of years.
What does this EP mean to you?
This EP is the first collective body of work I’ve ever put out and it’s really important to me! It’s a glimpse into my life and sharing it can feel pretty vulnerable sometimes, but it’s who I am as a person and artist and at the end of the day I want people to know me and hopefully they will find my experiences relatable and feel a sense of empowerment or comfort. I think there’s a song on there for everyone!
Can you spill any details on what your supporters can look forward to from you?!?
I don’t want to say too much, but I’ve got a lot of exciting stuff planned for the new year, and also something coming for Christmas! Lots of music for sure!
What’s it feel like to be releasing your own original music?
It’s the best feeling ever. Like I said, it’s very vulnerable, but in a good way because if someone can hear one of my songs and be like “Hey, I’ve felt that way too” it brings us together and let’s people know they’re not alone. Music is such a cool and special thing and I’m so grateful to have to the platform to be a part of it.
Will there be a music video for any of your new singles? If so, can you tell us about the concept of the video 🙂
There will be! I just released a music video for my single “Lobby,” and I’ll also be shooting some for my next releases!
What’s been the pros and cons of sharing your life on social media?
It’s super cool because you can let people get to know you in a way that’s so personal and creative, but it can also be hard because everyone sees exactly what you’re doing, so there’s a lack of privacy in a sense. Putting yourself out there also means people can form their own opinions and judgments of you based on nothing but what they see online, but I think social media is an AMAZING way to connect and I try to focus on the positives of it!
Is there anyone you want to thank that’s helped you get to where you are today?
Oh my god there are so many people, haha! I truly believe everyone’s path is unique and that we’re where we are meant to be in life at this moment, so I couldn’t be doing what I’m doing without experiencing my past as I have, so I think everyone that’s been involved with me is to thank. From my parents and my current team, to my very first vocal coach or piano teacher, and everyone in between. I think they’ve all shaped me into who I am today and I’m thankful for all of them!
What do you want your message to be towards your fans? What do you want your fans to take away from your music and shows?
I want to thank them for supporting me, because I couldn’t do what I’m doing without supporters! I want them to hear my music and be able to connect to it, and I want my shows to be a fun, energetic, but personal experience!
Are you planning any shows to promote your new music?
Yeah! I’m always trying to play live shows locally, you can check my website or instagram to stay up to date!
What is it like performing in front of your fans?
It’s amazing. I love playing live, and having supporters there makes it 100x better, and I definitely feed off of their energy! It’s cool to see people in person, because I feel like I “see” so many people online most of the time, so it’s nice to genuinely connect with them.
What do you want your supporters to know that you think is important?
I’m a huge advocate for human rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights and environmental issues. I think it’s important to try to stay educated on these issues and I try my best. I support where I can and do my best to educate those around me, or point them in the right direction if I don’t have the proper knowledge. Overall, one of the most important things to me is being a kind person. Just be kind to each other. It makes everyone’s life better.
What’s something your fans don’t know about you?
Hmm, I’m a Capricorn! Not sure if people know that or not. I also am 90% plant-based, and have an obsession with Harry Potter. 3 random facts!
Many of your supporters are starstruck when they meet you. Have you ever been starstruck?
I’m not sure, I wouldn’t say “starstruck” necessarily, but I’ve definitely met people who follow me and it’s surprising for both of us! It’s a weird but cool feeling to have someone be like, “Hey, aren’t you so & so?” I’ve been starstruck when I met Natasha Beddingfield a few years ago! I listened to her a lot when I was younger, so to meet her in person was incredible.
What do you want your fans to know if they ever see you in public?
Please say hi! I’d love to meet you!
Is there anyone in the music business you are dying to meet?
Rihanna. That woman is surreal to me, she’s just incredible. I think I’d definitely be starstruck in that situation!
Why do you think social media is so important for artists like yourself?
It’s vital in this age of technology to connect with supporters and other creatives around the world without even leaving your home. It gives artists an amazing platform to share their work and also meet other collaborators. I think it’s awesome.
What would you say is your biggest dream/goal right now?
I’d love to go on tour. That’s definitely one of my upcoming goals.
Any last things you want to tell your supporters?
Thank you SO much again. I appreciate every last one of you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview!
