Hey Payson 🙂 You gearing up to release a new album! What do you hope your supporters will think of the new music? And what do you hope they’ll get from hearing your new songs?

I think they’re really going to like it. This record is a big step forward for me; songwriting and production wise. So I really think people are going to dig it. And hopefully it gives them an emotional and physical response that they can identify with. I try to write about real life emotions but in a way that’s fun and you can move to.

Can you tell us the backstory of the new album? Is it from a real experience?

All of my music is drawn from real life experiences whether mine or someone I know. I really like writing songs that are inspired by things my friends are going through. It feels like my way of helping them.

What does this album mean to you?

A lot of this record is about getting up when you’re low or when things are hard and claiming your own place in the world. And in that way it kind of acts exactly that way for me.  It’s been a really hard year and this record functions as my own statement of taking ownership of my life and getting up from the times that have been tough.

Can you spill any details on what your supporters can look forward to from you?!?

I can’t say too much, but just get ready for a bunch of new music, music videos, and hopefully a lot of opportunities to see me play live.  I’ve been working non-stop on this stuff and I’m so excited to share it with everyone.

You’re also releasing your new single, “Nothing To You” soon!! Can you spill details on this new song?

Yeah! “Nothing To You” just came out on October 11.  It’s a retrospective about a time I was in an emotionally abusive and manipulative relationship. I had to get out and luckily I did. So “Nothing To You” sort of acts as a reminder or warning to pay attention to those red flags and look out for yourself.  And it slaps pretty hard so hopefully it pumps you up and inspires people to make a break for it if they need to.

What’s it feel like to be releasing your own original music?

Honestly, just amazing. Simple as that. Feels so good to be able to put my music into the world and see how it affects people and how they react to it.

Will there be a music video for any of your new singles? If so, can you tell us about the concept of the video 🙂

There will definitely be videos. But I can’t say much more than that. I always try and have the video match the mood and meaning of the song…but with a twist. So you’ll have to wait and see for that.

What’s been the pros and cons of sharing your life on social media?

Wow that’s a loaded question. I’ve gone through some pretty heavy stuff on social media and it’s definitely a double edged sword. You get the love from a lot of people who care about you…but then there are the haters. Or sometimes worse…just feeling like you aren’t being seen or heard. Social media is a total blessing and a curse.

Is there anyone you want to thank that’s helped you get to where you are today?

So many people have helped me, I could give you lists and lists. But no one has helped more than my family; My Dad, my Mom, and my brother, Micah. They’re my biggest supporters and I never could have done anything without them.

What do you want your message to be towards your fans? What do you want your fans to take away from your music and shows?

I just want people to find some solace in my music. Whether it’s commiseration, escape, or just needing to dance it out. I make my music for the people who are listening. It’s not a selfish endeavor for me.

Are you planning any shows to promote your new music?

Yes, and you’ll be the first to know about the shows. Working out some details as we speak.

What is it like performing in front of your fans?

Honestly, it’s the best feeling in the world. I love it. The energy is just…indescribable.

What do you want your supporters to know that you think is important?

Wow. Anything? I mean, I want them to know to floss every night?  Recycle. Reduce waste? Save the planet! I don’t know!?

What’s something your fans don’t know about you?

I guess not a lot of people know that I was a pretty good athlete when I was growing up. For a while I thought I wanted to try and be a professional soccer player

Many of your supporters are starstruck when they meet you,  have you ever been starstruck?

The only time I’ve been full on star struck was when I literally walked into Stevie Wonder. We both came around this corner from opposite directions and bumped into each other. When I realized who it was my jaw just DROPPED!

What do you want your fans to know if they ever see you in public?

Just say hey. Love to talk to people who know me and my music.

Is there anyone in the music business you are dying to meet?

Paul McCartney. Full stop. That’s my guy and I don’t know what I would do if I ever met him.

Why do you think social media is so important for artists like yourself?

Well I think it’s just part of the business because it’s how people discover new music and new artists. It’s also great for keeping up with artists and people you care about.

What would you say is your biggest dream/goal right now?

It’s a modest one, but I’d really like to be able to go out on the road and tour with my music. I’d love to open for a band on a bigger tour or on the festival circuit.

Any last things you want to tell your supporters?

I think we covered most of it. Just be good to each other.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview!

Thank you so much, it’s been a blast to get to talk to you.
