Hey Sasha!! So excited to be chatting with you!! What led you to start posting on YouTube?

Hi, Nice to chat with you too! I started my channel in the summer of 2013. I was bored one day so I watched a bunch of YouTube videos like “what’s in my makeup bag.” I then wanted to do the same. I thought it was so fun. I then continued to post beauty and fashion videos (mostly beauty) on my channel once a week.

What can people find on your channel?

People can find lots of makeup transformations, beauty tips and tricks, makeup review videos, some fashion videos, vlogs (the drive with me vlogs are so funny!), and some cover songs.

Are there any YouTubers that you look up to right now?

I am loving the content that James Charles is posting now. I also love that Jaclyn Hill is posting again and since it’s now vlogmas (vlogging until Christmas), I’ve been watching a bunch of those kinds of vlogs from youtubers such as Alisha Marie, Adelaine Morin and waiting for other youtubers to upload. I also watch Manny MUA and Jeffree Star.

Have you ever been starstruck by anyone you’ve met so far in the youtube world?

Yes! Kandee Johnson when I met her at BeautyCon in LA. And then the next visit to LA, I was invited to her OGX Beauty collaboration release party. Let me tell you, she is the sweetest! So down to earth and bubbly. She made everyone feel so welcomed.

What goals have you set out for yourself in your career and in your personal life?

I receive my degree from FIT in December.  I will continue to focus on my brand, Sasha Anne, while perfecting my makeup artistry with a goal of working in the film industry.  Personally, I aspire to continue to grow and dream, while gaining confidence and wisdom and hopefully a life partner to share it all with.

What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment in your career so far?

When I won a Shorty Award in the category, Best in Beauty for Empowering Young Women. That was the moment I realized that I have a platform for my voice to be heard and inspire my followers.

Overall, how has this whole YouTube career experience been for you?

It has been incredible so far and I hope that it will continue to be. I have been blessed.

Do you have any advice for anyone trying to make it as a YouTuber?

Pick your niche (you can also post other types of videos and it doesn’t all have to be just one category). Have fun with it! If your viewers feel you are relaxed and being yourself, they will be able to relate to you and get comfortable with your videos. Then those viewers turn into subscribers!

You have also created a huge social media presence for yourself. Why do you think social media is so important for artists today?

I think that social media is so important because it’s a way to promote yourself to your audience on different platforms. For example when I post my YouTube videos every Thursday night I post a trailer on my Instagram story with a swipe up so my Instagram followers can go to my channel. I think cross promotion is so important since there is so much competition in the industry. It’s also very important to build brand recognition. It’s also a great way to connect with my fellow makeup artists. We can collaborate and develop relationships that would have been too difficult years ago before social media existed.

How do you want your relationship to be with your fans?

I want my supporters to feel comfortable with reaching out to me whenever. I love d-ming my followers and connecting with them on a daily basis. They’re my friends!

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your fans?

I mostly use Instagram.

What is your favorite social media platform? and Why?

I can’t just pick one. I would say my top 3 are Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Instagram can be aesthetically pleasing and I love seeing new makeup looks and fashion looks that pop onto my feed. TikTok is just so addicting because the videos are so short and quick. So you just keep scrolling and lose track of time. I also like learning new fun dances. YouTube is so fun to watch also. I love seeing new makeup looks and transformations from my favorite youtubers and watching product reviews.

Does your fan base have a name?

Not really but I’d love a suggestion.  There are a few SashaAnne fan pages on Instagram

What was the craziest fan encounter you have had?

When I was having dinner with my mom on a Thursday night in Westhampton Beach a few years back. A group of young girls (tweens) started whispering and then shouting Sasha Anne! It was so random, unexpected and flattering.

Do you plan on venturing into acting or singing?

I am currently working on a new album that will hopefully be coming out in 2021. I’m so excited and I really believe that my followers will love it. I’m working with the amazing and talented, Trey Vittetoe who has worked with many amazing artists such as Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus, Drew Lanester, and the duo Krysta Youngs and Julia Ross. I can say that the vibes of these songs are very 2007-2010. Some give me pop star Barbie vibes and some give me pop/rock vibes. I don’t think I have ever thought of more “me” songs before. Most are about my life and others are just about having a good time. I’d love to get into acting.  I was taking acting lessons but life got in the way.  I hope to resume those lessons.

Do you have any projects in the works you can tell us about?

Besides for my album, and my Sasha Anne Sugar and Spice nail polish for the holidays I am looking into having a talk show featuring other influencers, fashion bloggers and makeup artists discussing anything and everything.

If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it —  metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions — what would it say and why?  (If helpful, it can be someone else’s quote: Are there any quotes you think of often or live your life by?)

“Venture outside your comfort zone, the rewards are endless”. Of course in the current Covid climate it’s probably not a good idea to venture anywhere. We are living in such challenging times.  When I am scared that I will not be able to persevere and overcome a curve ball thrown my way, the following quote comes to mind from Winnie the Pooh. “Never forget — You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and loved more that you’ll ever know.”

What is an unusual habit or an absurd thing that you love?

I love the smell of chlorine and bleach.  I love to swim.  But I prefer doing laps in an indoor pool because of the chlorine.

What is your current go-to song?

Probably one of my songs that I can’t say yet. So I’ll say either my cover of “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree” that is unfortunately delayed but will be up on iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music asap or “WTF Do I Know” by Miley Cyrus from her new Album, Plastic Hearts. It’s so catchy!

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do?

I watch old Hannah Montana tv shows.  I find them very relaxing to watch again.

Do you have any last things you want to tell your fans?

Be kind. Kindness goes a very long way. And thank you for all the support I get everyday. It means so much.

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions!!

Of course! Thank you!
