Hey Juliana! So excited to be chatting with you! You are gearing up for the release of your new single “Scared of Myself”! How excited are you to get this song out into the world?!?
I’m so incredibly excited to finally release this song! Not only is it the title track of my upcoming EP, but it’s the first song ever written for this project, so it’s very special to me.
What do you hope your supporters will think of the new song?
I hope my supporters will be able to understand my story and where I’m coming from, especially through my lyrics. There is not one lyric in this song (or any of my songs) that isn’t truthful. “Scared of Myself” is straight from the heart and I really hope my listeners will be able to not only recognize it, but relate to it.
Can you tell us the backstory of this song? Is it from a real experience?
While writing the whole EP, especially this song, I realized a lot about myself and the way I had been living my life. What I recognized was that a lot of the time, I was my own worst enemy. I think the first step to solving this is acceptance. Accepting that you’re not perfect. Accepting that we’re only human, and being okay with that. While writing “Scared of Myself”, I came to the conclusion that I can’t blame other people or things for the way I was feeling. I had to take a step back and accept the fact that I just had to work on myself. Work on loving myself so that I can be able to love others.
Will there be a music video for your new single?
I’m not exactly sure yet, but we are planning to release a music video for a song on the EP!
You also have more music coming out in 2019!! Can you spill any details on what your supporters can look forward to?!?
Yes!! The next thing coming out is my full EP, “Scared of Myself”!! With this upcoming release, you can look forward to a wide variety of music and vibes. There’s a little bit of pop, ballads, electronic, alternative, and even a little country feel! Every song is unique in its own special way, but they all share the same honesty and vulnerability.
Do you have a creative say in your music? Did you help write all your new songs?
Yes I do. I have a lot of say in my music, and I co-wrote every single song on the EP. I wouldn’t release a piece of music if it wasn’t from my heart. The most important part of my music to me is my lyrics. I spent hours on end with the other writers really digging into my brain and soul, making sure I was really saying what I was feeling. Personally, the writing was my favorite part of the whole process. I would keep going forever if I could.
What’s it feel like to be releasing your own original music?
It’s crazy. I mean, I’ve released my own music before, but on a much more casual level. But releasing this EP is so exciting. I’ve been working on this project for over 6 months, and I’ve never been so proud of something in my life. I just can’t wait for people to hear it.
Is there anyone you want to thank that’s helped you get to where you are today?
I’d really like to thank my family, especially my mom. I would never have gotten this far without their love and support. My mom has put in so much time and effort into this project because she really believes in me and what I can do. There aren’t words to describe how grateful I am.
How would you describe your fans? – what’s three words you would use to describe your fans?
My fans are so supportive! Since this project is kind of my break into the industry, it’s mostly my friends and family, but as my fan base continues to grow, I would say my fans are supportive, excited, and proud of me.
What do you want your message to be towards your fans? What do you want your fans to take away from your music and shows?
Growing up, music was always something that I could turn to. When I needed advice, support, or something to relate to, I could always find it in a song. That’s the kind of artist I want to be, and the type of music I want to release. The last thing I want is for people to think that I’m just another teenage girl trying to be a pop star, because that’s not what it’s about for me. If my words and music can make people feel okay, and like their not alone, that’s more than I could ask for. I want to be a relatable artist that people can look up to.
What’s one word you would use to describe what your fans have allowed you to accomplish?
My fans have done more for me than they know. As a new artist, it’s scary to put yourself out there, but all the support and love has just made me more confident in my craft and more excited to release the EP!
What do you want your fans to know if they ever see you in public?
I want to know that they’re my fans! I would absolutely love to talk to one of my fans in public. I’d love to get to know them, learn about their story, and thank them for giving my music a chance.
Is there anyone in the music business you are dying to meet?
Two artists that I am dying to meet are Julia Michaels and Lady Gaga. I admire their honesty, beauty, and individualism within their writing and they are huge inspirations to my music.
Why do you think social media is so important for artists like yourself?
With the help of social media, beginning artists like me can get their music heard a lot faster. Strategic use of social media at my point in my career is so important in terms of entrepreneurship and promotions. It’s the biggest platform to get yourself out there.
What would you say is your biggest dream/goal right now?
My biggest dream is to be performing at my own concert and have the audience be able to sing my songs so loudly that I can hear it. When I go to a concert, there’s always that moment where the artist just stops and looks around while their fans just scream their lyrics at the top of their lungs. Every time I witness this, I think to myself, this will be me one day. At that moment, I will know I’ve made it.
Any last things you want to tell your supporters?
I’d just like to let every know that it’s so important to be yourself. I know its cliche, but if it weren’t for me finally being myself, I never would have been able to release this EP. The second I started doing things for me, I’ve been the happiest person (and artist) around.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview!!
