What inspired you to pursue music at such a young age?
I went to a concert for my 10th birthday. After that, I told my parents, “this is what I want to do.” I must have been pretty persistent because I started guitar and vocal lessons and a year later played my first showcase at the HardRock in Nashville.
How would you describe your musical style?
I am a pop artist with R&B in my heart. I grew up with a lot of Latin music played in my home so I’m very passionate about my music and heritage.
What artists do you look up to right now?
There are so many amazing artists out there right now! I love Bruno Mars. Not only is he a fantastic performer, he writes his music and can kill it on the guitar. I was invited to the Radio Disney Music awards where Janet Jackson was honored and I was blown away by her. She is so kind and gracious and a true icon of pop music.
You recently released your new single “Own The Night” and it’s gotten an amazing reaction from your supporters. What has been your thought about the reaction of the new single?
Radio Disney gave “Own The Night” a lot of love. It played all day and everyday for 16 weeks. I would hear from fans every day, telling me how they loved the song. They sent me videos singing, jumping up and down with their friends. What was super cool is they kept requesting it! It became one of the top requested songs on Radio Disney’s “Total Request Now.” I would jump up and down every time it was the top requested song! It was so exciting!
Can you tell us the meaning behind “Own The Night”?
It’s a hang out with your friends song. When I wrote it, I was in LA, in the recording studio, missing my friends, and thinking about what we would do when I got home. I couldn’t wait to drive down to the beach with the music playing and my hair blowing in the wind! “Own The Night” became THAT song: the fun vibin’ with your friends song.
Your song has been in the top 10 on the Radio Disney playlist and the top requested song of the week, six weeks in a row. What do you hope to gain from his huge accomplishment?
I was told by people in the biz how hard it would be for an independent artist to get on a major radio station and how it would be near impossible to break into the Top 10. Having Radio Disney believe in me and welcome me into their family is huge. Then to have the amazing support of the fans who took me to #8… WOW! Makes me want to work that much harder.
Are you planning to perform your new song live anytime soon?
I play 1-2 shows a week. I love when the crowd sings along. When they know the words to my songs, oh my gosh, there’s nothing better.
How do you want your relationship to be with your supporters?
I think of my supporters and fans as friends. Its great hearing from them. Some I see at shows, others reach out on Instagram or leave messages on my YouTube and Twitter. I love hearing from them.
What was the craziest fan encounter you have had?
At a recent show, a man requested a song to propose! I got my guitar and sang Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” The couple danced in front of the stage and right at the perfect part of the song, he got down on one knee and she said yes!
What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your supporters?
I’m on all platforms but hear from fans mostly on Instagram, Youtube and Twitter.
Are there any other projects in the works you can tell us about?
I’m in production on 3 new songs I wrote this summer. Each has its own vibe from chill R&B Pop to a little Latina groove to a straight up pop song that will make you want to jump up and dance. I’m really excited and can’t wait to share very soon.
Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?
Thank you for pressing play and letting me know how the songs make you feel. I am so thankful for your support.
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with us.
Thank you very much. XoXo Samantha
