Hey Macy! So excited to be chatting with you! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Ditto! I’m currently (at the time of these answers) quarantining at my family ranch in Texas as I’m wrapping up my senior year at Belmont University and am getting ready to graduate virtually, which is so wild to say…on many levels and I am super excited that my new song “I Miss You” is out in the world now!
Where did your love of music come from?
Growing up I was surrounded by so many different genres and styles of music. I think the first time I remember falling in love with music was listening to “Smile” by Nat King Cole with my Nana. The melodies of jazz and swing music still make my heart sing.
What artists do you look up to right now?
In country music I can’t get enough of Caitlyn Smith. Her vocals and songwriting are just undeniable. Ingrid Andress is another one of my songwriting girl crushes. In general, you won’t find any of my daily Spotify made-for-you playlists without Lauv, Harry Styles, or Camila Cabello on them. Call me a Top 40 fan girl, but each of their latest albums have been incredible.
You just released your new single “I Miss You”! How excited were you to get this project out into the world?!?
SO excited! This song has been in the works for a while. Lots of love has been poured into it and I am just so happy that I get to share it now!
Can you tell us what this song means to you?
I feel like too often we are told immediately to move on and get past the hurt of an ended relationship, when really it is totally healthy to reminisce on the golden and good of what used to be and to cherish and miss it. I’m proud to have a song that talks through just that.
What do you hope your supporters will think of the new song?
I am a firm believer that there is a purpose of shaping us in everything that we experience in this life. Even when a relationship doesn’t work out ultimately, there was still a purpose in it. We grew, learned more about ourselves, and have good memories scrapbooked in our mind and heart. I hope that when people hear “I Miss You” they can connect their own experiences with the emotions in the song like I did.
Any fun moments while creating the song?
Finding out that Carly Pearce was a co-writer of the song after cutting it was pretty cool because I look up to her as a woman in the industry who supports other women and has worked hard to be where she is, never giving up along the way. She is a wonderful example to have and I’m grateful to her for letting me cut “I Miss You”.
Will there be a music video for your new single? If so can you spill any details about it?
There will be a music video. All I can say right now is that it was a blast to make with two other creatives who have believed in me since the beginning of this journey! It may or may not be another version of the song. 😉
What other release plans do you have for 2020?
I currently have enough music ready to release through the summer of 2021. Saying that is so exciting to me! Having the right songs is 100% the first thing you have to get right and I really believe with every song, I’m getting there. Each song I believe in more and more, and I’m grateful for that.
What do you hope your supporters will think from hearing your new music?
My goal going into 2020 was sharing more of me, the stories I’ve lived, and relate to, I think that can be felt in this new music. I hope people hear me and my vulnerability shining through and that they can connect to that.
What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your supporters?
Instagram is my favorite platform for the visual stories I get to tell and share. Pictures really do say a thousand words and I love that.
Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?
Go listen to “I Miss You” and follow me @macymartinmusic on all platforms so we can virtually chat it up. Thanks for the love and support!
