Hey Lulu! So excited to be chatting with you! You just released your new single “Strangers” & it’s awesome! What do you hope your supporters will think of the new song?

Thank you very much! I mean more than anything I hope that people like that song hahaha. I hope that it resonates with people and serves as a catharsis for those who need it.

Can you tell us the backstory of this song? Is it from a real experience?

It is based on a real experience, yes. I was in a situationship with this guy and it was making me absolutely miserable, I was so anxious and insecure and I just got so sick of it, so I decided to remove myself from the situation. Even though it wasn’t necessarily what I wanted to do, I knew I had to, and when I ended it he said, “Well, we can still be friends, right?” And I was torn because I felt like the mature thing to do was to say yes, of course, but I really didn’t want to so I ended up being like, um, we’re not friends, I don’t know how to be friends with you and I don’t want to learn how. And thus, Strangers was born!

You also have more music coming out in 2020!! Can you spill any details on what your supporters can look forward to next year?!?

I mean, I *hope* I have more music coming out in 2020! I’m working really hard, trying to get some bangers polished and ready for consumption. I feel like it’s such a weird time in the world right now, I hope that it’s easy for my listeners to hear how I’m working through it all and that they’re able to connect with it.

Do you have a creative say in your music? Did you help write all your new songs?

I actually mostly write by myself to begin with, I don’t really do a lot of writing sessions or anything like that. It’s usually just me and my guitar, sitting on the floor of my closet, just writing my little heart out. When I get stuck or do need help or a second opinion, I go to my older brother Ade. He’s the only person I really trust to give me any lyrical advice. I like to write everything myself and keep all that credit, haha, is that bratty? I don’t know!

What’s it feel like to be releasing your own original music?

It’s really exciting! This is something I’ve been wanting to do since I was like, 13, so to actually be lucky enough to do it is an amazing blessing, I’m so grateful for the opportunity, and even more grateful that people actually like what I’m doing. They have good taste hehe.

Will there be a music video for your new single? If so, can you tell us about the concept of the video 🙂

I don’t think there will be a music video for Strangers, unfortunately, but! I actually made a music video for another one of my songs, I Wanna Break Ur Heart, this summer with my friends, which I’m currently in the middle of editing, so, keep your eyes peeled for that!

What’s been the pros and cons of pursuing your music career?

The pros are that music is literally my favorite thing on planet earth, I’m so lucky to be able to make it full time and to be able to express myself in such a fulfilling and satisfying way. The cons, however, are that so many people have irrelevant opinions that they love to shove in your face and use against you, it’s really a bummer that there are people in the world that go out of their way to be unkind to someone, in any context, but especially about art, which is so subjective, how could anyone judge? I love the music I’m making and if anyone has anything bad or discouraging to say about it, keep it to yourself, I’m uninterested in your bad vibes.

Is there anyone you want to thank that’s helped you get to where you are today?

Wow that list would be impossibly long, anybody that has supported me or genuinely enjoyed the music I’m making has been so encouraging, they’ve given me the confidence to follow through with my dreams, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

What do you want your message to be towards your fans? What do you want your fans to take away from your music and shows?

I want my fans to understand the importance of vulnerability! I think there’s such a stigma around being vulnerable and honest and letting yourself feel small, especially as a woman, you have to be strong and tough and let drama roll off your shoulders but that’s just not realistic. It’s okay to let yourself be upset or sad or confused or angry and to get it out of your system in a healthy way. For example, you could stream my music and cry and dance really hard and put glitter all over your face and then eat some soup and BOOM, you’re all better probably!

Are you planning any IG live shows to promote your new music?

Oops, no, should I be?

What is it like performing in front of your fans? Are you excited to start performing your own music live!?!

I’ve only played a handful of shows thus far, but it’s been so much fun every time. I’m so lucky that I’m able to play shows, that people care to show up at all, that I’m able to play music with my friends, it’s an amazing feeling. Once I finally learn how to dance, my shows will actually be cool probably hopefully ha.

What’s something your fans don’t know about you?

I mean I’m such a new artist, I’m sure they don’t know a single thing about me, really hahaha. Or maybe I’m an open book and they know everything, there’s no in between. I’m 4’10”. Is that worth knowing? I don’t know!

Is there anyone in the music business you are dying to meet?

Honestly I love Kim Petras so much, I’d love to party with her once it’s COVID safe to do so.

Why do you think social media is so important for teen artists like yourself?

I think that if used properly, social media is a really wonderful way to promote yourself and to connect with your fanbase. The ability to share your music and your personality with people is so much easier now than it’s ever been before, and that’s so dope, we’re unstoppable, capable of anything, we’re the best, I love us.

What would you say is your biggest dream/goal right now?

I feel like my biggest goal is to just keep growing my fanbase, to keep being able to make music and reach people, have more opportunities to create and perform and share my art and wear cute clothes and glitter.

Any last things you want to tell your supporters?

Stay safe and stay smart during these weird times! Be nice, recycle, drink water, stream Strangers, bing bang boom.
