Hey Capri! So excited to be chatting with you! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Thanks! I am a 15 year old singer/songwriter who loves playing guitar and piano. I also love to dance! I have been releasing my own original music for a couple of years now and I really love it! Recently I received a position as a Top 10 Finalist for CBC’s Searchlight competition with my music video for my song “Girl Stand up”.
Where did your love of music come from?
Ever since I was born, my parents played music around me. When I was 4 years old, I knew every Shania Twain song out there and would yell “Shania” when I heard one. After seeing my love for music, my parents put me in piano and voice when I was 5 and I’ve loved it ever since.
What artists do you look up to right now?
I am a huge fan of Ariana Grande, her voice is so incredible and her songs are all so good. I also love Shawn Mendes (not just cause he’s Canadian as well) I find I never get tired of his songs.
Your new single “Breathe” just came out! How excited were you to get this project out into the world?!?
I was sooo excited to release Breathe into the world. It is my favourite song that I have released so far. It was one of those songs where I wanted to release it right away and having to wait was a bit annoying:)
Can you tell us what this song means to you?
This song is a very deep ballad written about the personal struggles that I faced last year. It is about taking a moment to be calm and to “just breathe” because if you are going through anything in your life that is a bit tough, sometimes you might forget to relax and step away from a situation. Now every time I am anxious about something “Breathe” starts playing in my head and I hope that it does the same for others.
What do you hope your supporters will think of the new song?
I have already received an overwhelming amount of support for this song which I am so grateful for. My supporters are saying that this is their favourite one yet which is amazing!
Any fun moments while creating the song?
When we were in the studio trying to come up with ideas for the ballad, we originally started another song which I liked but didn’t love. So, after a while I decided that it didn’t quite feel right so we stopped for the day and the next day we came up with Breathe!
Will there be a music video for your new single? If so can you spill any details about it?
I did originally plan for a music video for Breathe however the world has recently turned on it’s head which may jeopardize my current music video plans (like it has with everything). But hopefully the video still happens at some point. In the mean time, I have a lyric/music video out that you guys can watch!
Here it is: https://youtu.be/PQejVaI-o_o
What other release plans do you have for 2020?
I have already released one single in 2020 called “Kissing” and I have a plan to release one more called “Caught up” (many of my friends favourite song of mine) next month so stay tuned!
What do you hope your supporters will think from hearing your new music?
I hope that my supporters will be able to watch me grow and mature as I continue to release new content.
What does it feel like releasing your own original music?
Writing songs for me is the most fun thing I can do. Nothing replaces the feeling of hearing your song for the first time, so I hope to record more soon! Sometimes I get so excited to release my songs after I hear them that I just want to release them right then.
What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your supporters?
I am on most social media platforms however my favourites are Instagram and Facebook. I love responding to all my comments on these platforms as well as hosting livestreams and posting lots.
What’s one word you would use to describe what your supporters have allowed you to accomplish?
My supporters have allowed me to continue to write music through their support and I would not be recording songs or music videos without their help! They inspire me to practice every day and to make sure I always have new content coming out.
Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?
Just that I am so thankful for all their support and for what they allow me to do!
