Your new single, “Quicksand” has gotten an amazing reaction from your supporters. What has been your thought about the reaction of the song?

I have been amazed by the positive reaction to this song. Having my fans love the song and message as much as I do has been incredible.

How did the idea for this song come about? & Can you tell us the meaning behind the name “Quicksand”?

I wanted to write about the struggle to achieve the American Dream. It’s something I’ve experienced and know it’s a pretty universal experience. Working towards my dream despite the odds left me feeling like I was sinking and struggling to stay afloat. This to me felt like Quicksand, which is how I came up with the song concept. Although the struggle is difficult, I wanted to inspire others to keep grinding to overcome the struggle.

What’s the process of writing one of your songs?

I’ve written songs in so many different ways. Sometimes I sit down at the piano and start playing around until I come up with a chord progression I like, then I start humming along until I find a catchy melody I feel connected to. I simultaneously start having some words or a phrase come to mind that fit that melody. Then I build the song around that idea. I actually come up with a lot of song ideas while driving. One time I had to pull over on the side of the road and scribble the whole song down on my iced cup because my phone was dead so I couldn’t record a voice memo.

We are so excited to be premiering the music video for “Quicksand”. How did the idea for this music video come about?

I knew I wanted to share multiple perspectives of struggle. Whether it be working towards a heavy weight competition, or practicing a dance routine for hours in order to kill it on stage, or my struggle as a new artist, I knew everyone would be able to relate in one way or another to the stress and doubt that accompany that struggle. It was extra exciting that I was able to film the entire video at my school, Colgate University featuring all Colgate students.

Any fun moments while creating the music video?

I actually had a lot of the football team help to carry the weights Gavin used up from the fitness center to the dance studio, which was pretty hilarious. I felt pretty unhelpful at that one point ?.

Do you have a creative say in your music and videos?

Yes. I actually have almost the entire say because I am running my own career right now. From songwriting to production to music videos to promos to social media, I have created my own artistic vision so far. I am grateful for the mentors that have guided me along the way to this point as well.

Are there any other projects in the works you can tell us about?

This winter and especially 2019 is going to be a big year. I am in the middle of working on my debut EP which I’m pretty stoked about. I think these songs are my strongest yet.

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your supporters?

I have been focusing a lot on instagram recently because I get a lot of personal messages there. It has been wonderful chatting with fans and hopefully helping some with their own struggles.

Do you have any last things to tell your supporters?

I am eternally grateful for my supporters. I wouldn’t be here or anywhere without you. Can’t wait to keep growing together and to continue spreading positivity xx.

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview!

Thank you!!
