Hey Cassandra Kubinski! So excited to be chatting with you! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Sure! I’m a singer, songwriter, and voiceover actress. I’m born andraised in CT, but now live between NYC and Saratoga Springs. I love music, dance, yoga, the outdoors (especially hiking, biking, and kayaking). I’m a Leo, and once when I was in a theatre show, I had to learn to tightrope walk (which I loved). You can usually find me writing, singing, producing, collaborating with other creatives on shows, videos, music and events.
Where did your love of music come from?
I think it’s in my blood… I always sang, even when I was really little, like 2. My parents listened to a lot of music, from Billy Joel to Carole King to jazz, Broadway, classical, folk, funk, rock…I absorbed it all,and I think I loved music cuz it was always around. My Dad alsoplays piano, and maybe there was some element of that influencing me
What artists do you look up to right now?
Jason Mraz, Billie Eilish, Rachel Platten, Rob Thomas, Billy Joel, Sara Bareilles. I love artists who write different kinds of songs, and who are always out to make a difference in the world with their music.
You just released your new music video for your single “Welcome To The World”! How excited were you to get this project out into the world?!?
Very excited- the song is from my album DREAMS, which came out late last year, and we’ve had the video shot and edited since last Summer- so it was so exciting to finally get it out there! We felt like the moment we are in, with everyone in quarantine, was a good time to release something with a positive, innocent, hopeful sentiment.
Can you tell us what this song means to you?
I wrote the song for my niece when she was born. To me, it’s my hopes and dreams for her. She is the first baby in the family of my generation, and so was I When I met her in the hospital the first time, I was oversome with love, and with this sense of adventure, of knowing that we will always be here to support this human being, and that she will always be so loved. I wanted to write something that would always remind her that.
What do you hope your supporters will think of the new video?
The video is hand-drawn by my friend Julia Green, and I hope people find it whimsical, fun, innocent, and beautiful. I hope people see it as the type of thing they want to share with someone in their life who has a child, who will understand the feelings in the lyrics. We hope people feel a sense of wonder, of reconnecting with their own innocence and hopefulness and dreams, when they watch this.
How did the concept of the video come about?
My producer and co-writer, Tony Daniels, and I have been friends with Julia for a while. We had the idea to do something illustrated, and thought of her. She has the ideas about exactly which images to draw, in which order (which was informed by the lyrics and the story in the song). We spent a whole afternoon on location with Julia in her studio, filming her while she drew, and then timelapsed the images and colorized them to add some extra magic.
What other release plans do you have for 2020?
I’ll be releasing a cover of Jason Mraz’s “Back to the Earth” soon, with a lyric video. Then we have a big song, “Stardust,” that I’m excited about- it’s really anthemic and might be something people will love hearing as we all head back out into the world after quarantine. I’ve also been performing lots of live online concerts from my Facebook and Instagram pages, so I’m planning new shows with special guests, collabs, giveaways etc. You can follow those shows by following @CassandraKubinski on IG or FB.
What do you hope your supporters will think from hearing your new music?
I hope they hear a message that they feel like relates to their own life. I hope it helps them feel like they are not alone. Like they are capable of achieving their dreams. I hope my music inspires people to reach out, connect, be vulnerable, take risks, offer people generosity and kindness. And – I hope people think “wow, this is just an awesome song!” and that people pass along the music to someone they love.
What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your supporters?
Facebook and IG @cassandrakubinski Spotify and Pandora (these are actually social networks too!)
Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?
You always have a choice about what to focus on- make it the positive stuff that makes you feel good! Be responsible for not getting dragged down into fear-based conversations, comparisons, and judgment (especially within yourself and your conversations in your head, hehe). This world is full of such wonder, and it opens up to anyone who is curious and willing to participate instead of shrinking back to look good or play it safe. Get out there and try things- we all learn by trying, failing, and trying again!
