Hey Olivia!! What’s been your reaction to the fans anticipation for your new single?
People have been extremely supportive and accepting of the music so far. It makes me super happy to see others resonate with the music so I can’t wait to share yet another single with them, especially since this song is much different from the rest.
How excited are you to get “Hold Me” out into the world?
I wrote “Hold Me” in October of 2019 so I am VERY excited to finally be releasing it!! I’ve become so familiar with the song and I forget sometimes that the world hasn’t heard it yet so that’s always an exciting moment.
Where did your love of music come from?
Growing up music was always playing in the car and in my house. My dad would always be playing acoustic guitar and singing to me as a little kid, so he had a really big influence on me. Eventually, he taught me a few chords on guitar and that’s when I began to write songs. I also attended lots of concerts around age 13 which sparked my love for performing!
Do you have any other release plans for 2020?
Yes! An EP will be coming out sometime at the end of summer/early fall… stay tuned!!
What do you hope your supporters will think of the new music?
I hope audiences can feel the vulnerability and honesty in this new music. I’ve poured my heart and soul into these lyrics so I really hope people see that and can ultimately resonate with these songs and projects!
How do you want your relationship to be like with your supporters?
I’ve always gravitated towards artists who are really authentic and communicative with their supporters. As I slowly grow a fanbase, my hope is to have a similar relationship.
What’s something your fans don’t know about you?
I used to be big into sports! I grew up a gymnast, and went on to play basketball and volleyball in highschool 🙂
What do you want your fans to know if they ever see you in public?
come say hi!! 😀
What’s one word that you would use to describe what your fans have allowed you to accomplish?
Last summer I threw a headlining show at home. It was so incredible to feel the positive energy and see the large turnout. I’ll remember that night for a very long time and I’m so grateful that people enjoy the music enough to support my passion.
What do you want your message to be towards your fans and what do you want them to take away from your music?
My biggest goal as an artist is to remain authentic and have authentic interactions as a result. I hope people can listen to my music and feel a sense of ease and happiness. Especially during these chaotic times, I want my music to be a light.
You recently lended your voice to a rendition of “Lean on Me” alongside top Canadian artists including Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne, Michael Bublé, and Sarah McLachlan in support of COVID-19. Can you tell us what this organization and cause means to you and why you felt like it was a good project to be a part of?
The Canadian Red Cross improves the lives of vulnerable people all year round and in a crisis like COVID-19 their services are crucial to a lot of people. Being able to help in a national way was really exciting and coming together with fellow musicians to use our craft to benefit others was a rewarding thing. I didn’t have to think twice about being a part of this project as it was truly an honour and will forever be a memory and symbol of hope in these dark times.
You also teamed up with Bumble to emphasize the importance of keeping in touch with loved ones to resist loneliness during social distancing. Do you have any advice to help any of your supporters who are having a tough time during this pandemic?
Reach out to loved ones and friends! I’ve reconnected (via facetime) with so many old friends and important people in my life and it’s been really special. This is a very strange time but no one is alone in feeling that discomfort. We are all in this together and better days are ahead!
Is there anyone in the music business you are dying to meet?
I’ve been enjoying Harry Styles new album so much. I’d love to pick his brain on his songwriting process and the album as a whole 🙂
Why do you think social media is so important for artists like yourself?
As an artist/creative social media gives us a large platform to use our voices and it’s so important to utilize that audience especially in times of need and crisis around the world. In that way, social media is a beautiful thing that lets us come together and unite – regardless of our location.
What would you say is your biggest dream/goal right now?
With live shows being on hold my focus has shifted to writing lots of music. Once the world is back to normal I would love to one day play a stadium show, I can imagine the energy would be incredible!
Any last things you want to tell your supporters?
You’re loved and thank you for listening to my music and allowing me to pursue my dream <3
