Welcome and thanks for your time. Tell us a little about yourselves and your musical journey.
I got started in music at age 5. I was dancing so hard to a cassette tape in the corner of my kindergarten class in Oregon (1991), that I knocked the chair over behind me. I didn’t realize I had knocked it over until the teacher came over and took the headphones off of my head. Instantly I was transported back to reality. That was the first time I was spellbound by the intoxicating effects of music.
How did you get started in music and how did you know this is what you wanted to pursue full time?
Later at age 12 I was in Singapore learning how to skateboard (1996) and my skate crew and I decided to take a break from the heat. We went into the jungle behind my house and played keyboard/guitar/bongos. This was the first song-writing experience I ever had. My friends and I were playing the same chords and making up lyrics. We spent a couple hours doing it, and then everyone had to go home for dinner. I experienced an extreme sense of “coming down” when they left because all of a sudden, we were not able to continue playing the song we made together. This moment changed my brain forever. I had had my first taste of a group-induced sound catharsis experience. From then on, addiction to this feeling became my driving force.
Who are your greatest influences as a band and why?
Our greatest influences as a band are:
1. Rancid, because they are a family and a team who live their music as one.
2. Bill Monroe, because A. He is amazing, and B. He toured around the US and played every little spot he could.
3. Old Crow Medicine Show- They are the busking kings.
4. Woody Guthrie- OG busking king.
5. Aphex Twin- Cuz just wow…
We would love to hear more about what you have been up to this year so far?
