Hey Guys!! So excited to be chatting with you!! What inspired you guys to pursue music?

Sydne Rose – Both of my parents work in the music industry. I’ve been listening to music and singing pretty much my whole life. It’s a part of who I am and I can’t really see myself doing anything else.

Can you tell us a little something about each of you?

Maya – Hi, I’m Maya and I have been singing with Laura since I was about 7 or 8. I have really enjoyed singing and a cappella. Besides singing, I like to read, write, surf, dance, and play piano and ukulele.

Sydne Rose – Pink is my favorite color; all of my apps on my phone are pink and 90% of the things in my room are pink. Super random but I also LOVE peanut brittle, it’s my favorite candy ever.

Elise – I really love musical theatre and acting, I’m learning how to roller-skate, and I am also a cat person!

Mischa – I play piano, I love to read, I love architecture, dogs, swimming, and English class.

Noah Stone – I’ve been singing and playing piano since I was 4, i love tennis, animals, and gaming. I am a freshman and my favorite subject is Italian. I love singing with others because when we sing together theres just something about that, that brings us closer as human beings.

Simone – Okay. I’m a cat person, through and through, but I love all animals. I’m also an avid reader, and I love reading classics like Les Misérables, Jane Eyre, and Pride and Prejudice. I’m slightly obsessed with antiques, and I collect antique teacups and hats. My hat collection is currently on its way to 30.

Lucy – My name, Stella Lucy, means starlight. I have been singing since i was little. i love fashion and my favorite animal is a shark.

Cameron the Beatboxer – Although I never mention it I love computers and technology. I have a wonderful pet rock named rocky who truly is fantastic. One of my favorite subjects in school is math because it unlike math is still yet to be fully finalized and completed with millions of math problems yet to be discovered.

Lauren Shay – Hi! I am in general a super bubbly person, but I can be serious if I want to! I love music, and dancing, but I am also really passionate about learning, and school. I love to read and dance, and as everyone in Squad can attest to, I tell really long stories that have an amazing built up, to absolutely nothing. I am definitely a perfectionist, and I pride myself on my work ethic, but also my creativity.

Johanna – Hi!! For as long as I can remember music has always been “my thing”. Other hobbies growing up in school didn’t seem to entice me as much as piano, voice, theatre, orchestra, etc.

What is it like being in an acappella group?

Sydne Rose – It’s such an incredible experience. Everyone is so kind and accepting and it’s almost like a second family. It’s so cool creating music with people that mean so much to you and only using our voices as well.

Elise – It’s like being a family with your best friends. Ever since I’ve met the other members of Squad, it makes me so happy because I can always just call them to talk or play games or really do anything. Everyone is so fun and we could spend hours just talking and laughing. We are all so close and would really do anything for each other.

Mischa – It’s really unifying and exciting. I get to do 2 of my favorite things: singing, and bonding with friends. And when a song comes together, we all just hear it and it’s like a breath of fresh air.

Johanna – After my freshman year of high school I quit volleyball. I quickly realized that having a team is so important. But I was already a part of one. This a cappella group. It’s brought a lot of smiles that wouldn’t have been there otherwise, and good days to outweigh the bad. I love everyone so much in this group, don’t know what I’d do without them.

How would you describe your musical style as a group?

Sydne Rose – We definitely do a lot of pop I think.

Lauren Shay – I think our musical style is a group isn’t a genre, but more of an attitude. We sing the songs that make us feel good, and make other’s feel good. We sing songs that express what we believe in. I think that is so important because having your voice heard is how change starts, and our voice comes out through our songs.

What artists do you guys look up to right now?

Sydne Rose – I’m not sure about everyone else but I definitely love Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Tori Kelly, Amber Riley, Rex Orange County, and Melanie Martinez

Simone – I’m a big musical person, so I’d have to say Lin-Manuel Miranda or Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. Those two have written some of my favorite musicals, and I just think that they put so much effort into their work, and they come up with amazing things!

Lucy – I love listening to Billie Eilish, Noah Cyrus and Taylor Swift. I really love Adele’s music and style. Her voice is beautiful and she is very talented. Also Whitney Houston. She was so so incredible and she is also someone I admire.

What’s the meaning of the name “Squad Harmonix”?

Mischa – Squad means ‘team’ but it also means buddies, homies, besties, people you love and you consider family. Harmonix is derived from the word ‘harmony’ which is the essence of Acappella

You guys just released your new cover song!! How excited were you guys to get this song out into the world?

Elise – We were super excited because we want to show our support for the Black Lives Matter movement. It is very important to all of us and it is a huge issue, especially in the United States. We released this song to hopefully spread awareness about this movement and it was great to work with such a talented group as InSync.

Lauren Shay – We are so excited to release Stand Up! This song conveys such an important message that everyone needs to hear. Black Live Matter, period. Everyone person is a human and deserves to be treated as such, and with the same respect for their life, as the person next door’s.

Sydne Rose – Super excited! Releasing song covers and creating them is always such a fun experience.

What do you hope your supporters will think of the new song?

Mischa – I hope they will be inspired to go out and make a difference. To actually do something in support of Black Lives Matter, rather than just declaring your solidarity and sitting back.

Cameron the Beatboxer – We hope they love it but also hope that it shows unity and that you are never too young to find ways to make a difference and letting the world know it’s time for change

Can you tell us how this song came about? Why did you guys decide to release a cover of this song?

Mischa – We are releasing this song as a collaboration with another group called Intonenation. They are so talented, and when they suggested this song, we instantly fell in love. We decided to release a cover of this song because we want to not only show that we are in support of BLM, but to try to convince people to help and actively make a change. If this song inspires or changes even one person’s mentality, it will have been worth it.

Maya – We decided to release Stand Up to show our support to the BLM movement. We believe that change needs to happen, and we wanted to use our platform to make people more aware of this problem that we are facing, because, unfortunately, it is still a problem. And it will continue to be until black people are treated with as much respect as white people – because racism shouldn’t exist and shouldn’t have existed in the first place.

Sydne Rose – We decided to release a cover of stand up because it really is time to stand up. Police brutality and the mistreatment of black lives has been happening way to long. We want to spread awareness and hopefully get others to support the movement.

Cameron the Beatboxer For me, it was the George Floyd incident. Obviously this has been going on way way before but I think we all watched what happened and you can never unsee that. That hit home. It should have hit home before but we realize that many of us are privileged to never experience treatment or exposure to events such as this. Our main focus now is Breonna . It’s never too late to stand up . It’s never too late to start putting yourself in other people’s shoes. Focus now is Breonna and bringing awareness to what’s happening

Are there any other projects in the works you can tell us about?

Maya – We have some holiday songs coming up!

Elise – We have a holiday E.P. coming out November 29th that we are super excited about. We are going to have 5 tracks and 2 music videos with everyone’s favorite holiday songs. We are super excited so make sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled for some sneak peaks.

Why do you think social media is so important for artists today?

Sydne Rose – Social media is important for artists so that they can really promote themselves and their brand. Social media is also a great communication tool and a place where artists can talk about social justice issues that they are passionate about.

Noah Stone – I feel that social media is so important for artists today because it will help them spread their message and since over 3 billion people have social media, then i feel that it is important to have it.

Simone – Social media is important for artists today because since so many people are on it, it is an excellent way to get people to see your work and see what the response is. It’s also a great way to gain that support that could help you do well in the industry.

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your fans?

Sydne Rose – Definitely Instagram.

Lucy – I use Instagram the most. I am always looking for song recommendations and I love it when fans dm me with some.

How do you want your relationship to be with your fans?

Noah Stone – I want our relationship with fans to be chill, like we’re friends.

Lucy – I want my fans to see me as a friend. I want to be real with them and remind them that we all make mistakes. I have posted bloopers of myself on my Instagram of me messing up, getting mad and sounding bad because I find it funny and I want to share that with fans. I love to laugh and I hope to make my fans happy through my content.

Johanna – I want that relationship to be more like a friendship rather then a sort of superiority complex. Talking to them and listening to suggestions and feedback and compliments. And having a lot of fun getting to know all of them as the numbers grow!

What’s an average day like for you guys?

Maya – For me, I wake up, eat breakfast etc, then do online school. After school, I have music practice or music class. Practicing usually means going over songs in squad, voice warm ups, songwriting, and piano. Then I usually get some exercise somehow, wether that’s walking the dog or dance class. Then it’s basically leisure time and dinner.

Simone – An average day consists of an aerobics workout, sight reading, songwriting, and games.

Lauren Shay – An average day for me is doing school, working on a song whenever I can, reading, doing my homework, exercising, and especially now, making sure I block of time to reach out to my friends, because it is so easy to feel isolated in these times.

Johanna – My online schedule is definitely hectic. 6 hours of school on Zoom, which usually is followed by 4-5 hours of homework. This year is super important for colleges to look at, so the work load is for sure a lot. I run a community service club, so after school most days I’ll have a meeting for that. At night I like to do all my music practice, whether it be classical piano, or singing for hours on end before my neighbors give me a signal that it’s too late in the evening.

Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?

Sydne Rose – We love you all and thank you for supporting us!!!
