How did you guys become a band?

I started out playing locally by myself in the Tampa Bay Area and slowly started adding members starting in 2010.

What’s the meaning of the name “The Hip Abduction”?

Just always thought THA would be a cool name for a band. Our music is all very rhythmic based and hip abduction means the spreading of your legs. It’s sexual, it moves, and no one knows what it means. I like that

Can you tell us a little something about each of you?

David – played guitar and is the main songwriter. Loves surfing, traveling, and eating weird food.
Chris – plays bass. He lived in the Polynesian islands for a year. Loves waking up at the beach.
Matt – plays drums. Does an amazing Rick Astley impression while playing drums. Loves cats.
Cody – plays keys. The youngest of the group and has a alternate personality after a few shots that likes to hug and gives high fives. We call the alt person Chazy.
David J – plays sax. Has 2 awesome little kids and is a good guy to talk w if you have something bothering you.
Justino – one of the best guitar players I’ve ever seen. Loves movies and has amazing hair. You should touch it.

What is it like being in a band?

Pros – Getting paid to travel around with your friends and play music for fans. Cons – no personal space, away from friends/fam/pets, staying healthy is tough on the road.

How would you describe your musical style as a band?

Feel good Tropical indie

What artists/bands are you influenced by?

Too many to list and changes monthly. Recently bay ledges, hippo campus, and plastic picnic.

What’s the difference from your band and all bands that have come before you?

We mix traditional African music, reggae, and indie dance music to take you to your happy place.

We wrote it with Becks Engineer and it took only 4 hours. Usually songs take months and years.

What was the process like creating the song?

Sitting in a room w David G on keys and I was singing melodies. Chris was messing around w lyrics. It was almost instant.

Any fun moments while recording the song?

The whole thing was surreal because of how perfect the session was.

How do you want your relationship to be with your fans?

We love open communication and sharing every experience with them. Love hearing feedback and giving away free Merch/ticket to shows. Love meeting everyone and hearing what our music means to them.

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your fans?

Insta for sure. FB doesn’t reach as many ppl for some reason these days . And I can’t stand twitter. Or maybe I suck at it.
