What inspired you to pursue music?

As soon as I started playing the trumpet I knew that I didn’t want to do anything else other than play music. At first I thought I only wanted to play the trumpet but a few years ago I realized that I really only want to write and perform my own music and play the trumpet to that. I realized that I am an artist and not just a trumpet player.

How would you describe your musical style?

I describe my sound as feel-good-pop. It’s supposed to make you feel good and also make you want to dance and there’s a lot of trumpet in there too.

Did you have a break out song that started things for you?

My song “Diggy” debuted with a Target commercial, which really kicked things off into high gear for me.

Your new music video for your latest single “Just Wanna Dance” is amazing, What was the process like creating the music video?

I wanted the video to feel authentic and raw and also to be able to reflect the real life experience of being on the road and of being on my phone since the song is about the consuming qualities of social media. The content was easy to capture since most of it came from a few live performances from my tour with Betty Who combined with social media content that I was posting at that time, which we were able to capture via iPhone screen recording. Most of the hard work was done in post by the director Ashley Osborn.

How did the idea for the music video come about?

I always knew I wanted to incorporate the use of social media in the video. Being able to screen record and also to save instagram stories made it very easy to compile a ton content from my phone. We were able to get at least half of what we needed for nothing and all from my phone. From there it felt natural to weave in live footage of me performing the song to highlight the meaning of the chorus. I’d like to give a big shout out to my day to day manager Jesse Destefano for bringing all of the pieces together. The fact is everything we artists put out there is supported and managed by incredible teams.

Any fun moments on set?

Since the “set” was actually the stage and I was simply performing the song live in San Jose and also in Chicago it was lots of fun!

What was your first thought of your new video?

I am very proud to have created and released my first music video without the help of a major label and it has empowered me to be able to accomplish this for my upcoming releases. The song has an important message for the world to hear about the consuming qualities of social media and I feel that the video captured the essence of that message.

Your newest single is dropping in a month!! Can you spill any details about the new song?

The song is called “My Trumpet” and it feels like it could be my official anthem even just based on the title. It also features the awesome Mexican rapper MC Davo and we are shooting the music video next week in Mexico City!

How do you hope the fans will react to the new song?

As long as it makes them feel good and it makes them want to dance then I’ve accomplished my goal.

Does your fanbase have a name yet?

They don’t know it yet but they are #thebigwigs

How do you want your relationship to be with your fans?

I want them to know that I make music for them to feel good and that I will always try and respond to them anytime they reach out. The one thing I do love about social media is how it keeps us connected and I hope that my music can connect me with amazing people all over the world so that we can share unforgettable moments enjoying live music together for the rest of our lives. I want them to know that I care for them as human beings and that I value their lives and that if I can do one thing for them in this life I hope to have been able to bring them a moment of joy and inspiration either through my recordings or a live show.

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your fans?

Instagram — mine is @spencerludwig

You just got chosen to be a part of YouTube’s prestigious “Artists In Residence” program! What was your reaction like when you learned about this huge accomplishment?

It was a huge honor and an amazing experience to be a part of this program. I hope that I was helpful in providing solid feedback to YouTube on their latest updates because they’ve been extremely supportive with helping me to navigate my way on their platform.

What do you hope to gain out of this huge accomplishment?

I’m working on building my YouTube fan base, which YouTube has been helping me to understand how to do as well as providing me with the resources to create content for my channel.

You recently opened up for Jason Derulo, How did this opportunity come about for you?

Jason is a really great person with a really big heart. He had heard about me somehow and then asked me to join him on stage once he knew that we were going to perform at the same festival. He had me perform on his songs “Trumpets” and “Talk Dirty”

Can you tell us a little bit about what it was like to open up for Jason?

Jason is extremely professional. Even though the temperate outside was below zero that night in Minnesota he never showed any signs that he was effected by it at all. He kept his game face on the entire time and performed a flawless set that his fans clearly enjoyed.

Are there any other projects in the works you can tell us about?

I plan to release singles with videos every other month so keep a look out!

Any last things you would like to tell your supporters?

Thank you for listening and for sharing! If you post a cover or any type of video on instagram of you singing, dancing or jamming to any of my songs I will share it! Also, a limited amount of merch is now available on my website! Check it out!
