Hey Shannon! So excited to be chatting with you about your new single “Imaginary Insomnia”.  Did you write the song? If so, what was that experience like?

I did write the song! I wrote it a few years ago after a wildfire was set near my hometown. When I learned it was arson, I was infuriated and this song was my response. I wrote it sitting on my dorm room floor with my friend beside me – I’ve definitely come a long way since then. This was one of those songs that just came to me. I don’t have a lot of recollection of it either, looking back on it. But I do remember it was inspired by a burning forest and the arsonists that caused it to burn.

Do you get nervous before you release new music or is it more of an excitement for you?

I would say more of an excitement. I love the business side of music and there is a lot of business strategy behind a release that is very interesting and exciting to me.

Was there anyone or anything in particular that pushed you to pursue music?

Growing up two constants in my life were family and music. I come from a wonderful and very musical family that is always encouraging me.

How did you decide to make this your next release?

I’ve played this song live a number of times and it is always a fan favorite! It felt like it deserved a fully produced version. I have two incredibly talented friends, Ron Bates and Michael Elliott, that really helped me bring this song to life.

Other than your own, what has been your favorite song released this year?

“My Future” by Billie Eilish. I have that song on repeat.

Do you have other projects or releases in the works you can tell me about?

I am in the process of recording a new EP! The release date and title are to be determined but I am really excited to release another full project!

What do you hope your supporters will think of your new music?

“Imaginary Insomnia” is not written about normal “pop song” content and I hope that is something people can appreciate. I also hope it gives people something new to dance to.

Do you have any IG Live shows planned to promote your new music?

Not IG live, but I will be playing an outside show at the University of North Alabama on November 13th that I am very excited about!

Tell us where we can find you online and get our hands on your new music?

You can find me on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and all major streaming platforms! I am also on Instagram @shannonmcneal and Facebook “Shannon McNeal Music”
