McKenna Camille is an actress and singer/songwriter living out her dreams on both coasts. A student at NYU Tisch School of Drama, McKenna has several original songs already released and is working on her new EP to be released in 2023. TMI had the pleasure of interviewing this Oregon native recently. Here are all the details!
Welcome to TMI McKenna! We’re excited to be interviewing today, congratulations on your upcoming single release. Before we dive in, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I am an actor and singer currently studying Drama at NYU Tisch. I am from a small city in Oregon where I grew up on the water, surrounded by water activities like water skiing and wakeboarding and outdoor adventures like camping and hiking!
You are an actress and a singer. Tough question, but if you had to choose, which would be your favorite and why?
The answer to this question changes on a daily basis if I’m being honest. Right now, I would have to say singing is my favorite, but I think that might be because I’m in acting school so when I am able to work on music it is really special.
We are excited to hear your new single, Runaway. What was your inspiration for the record?
My inspiration was honestly the craziness that is my brain. I wanted to show what it is like in my head and how hard I try to not be hard on myself in my busy life.
What are some of your favorite lyrics in the song?
My favorite lyric in the song isn’t really a lyric, it’s actually an adlib of me making an explosion sound. We wanted to add some adlibs to the song and for some reason, this is what seemed to fit the most.
Having made this record, what has it taught you?
It has taught me a lot about not taking myself so seriously, which is ironic because that was the intention behind the song. I had a lot of fun making the music video for it, which was basically me running around a set being a complete goofball.
Who was your producer for the song and how was the collaboration?
I worked with NiMusic on this song and I have worked with them on all my previous songs as well so I think we really understand each other.
What was your favorite moment in the recording studio for Runaway?
My favorite moment was definitely recording the explosion sound I mentioned before. We did like 20 takes before we found one that we all liked, which I think is so funny because if anyone had entered the studio during that time they would’ve been so confused.
What do you hope fans feel after hearing Runaway?
I hope they feel goofy and free to be themselves.
Can you tell us 5 fun things most people don’t know about you?
1. I know all the words to the song Downtown by Macklemore.
2. I love onions and eat them like apples.
3. I can drive a boat.
4. I have never dyed my hair.
5. I am not the biggest fan of elevators.
