Strange Main/Strange Music premieres a new video from Mackenzie Nicole for her song “Stay” from her new album Mystic out now. “Stay” is the seventh in an ongoing video series leading up to a short film release in May. Both the new album and accompanying video series take you on a cinematically epic and personal passage of mental health, emotional struggles, and, ultimately, the light at the end of the tunnel.

“Full of a tremendous amount of heart and soul, Mackenzie Nicole sculpts a true piece of art on Mystic” – The Beach Sloth

Mackenzie’s vocals shimmer and shine adding a joyous flavor to the work, and her lyrics veer into pure poetry. For the album, she partnered with producer Michael “Seven” Summers to create this moody-pop journey. The videos for “Heart of Darkness”, “Five Months, Four Days”, “Fun”,  “A Cut Rose in Tap Water”, “The House Above The World”, “Happy”, and today’s premiere of “Stay” can be seen here: http://smarturl.it/MysticSeries

Upon reflection on the mental breakdown that inspired Mystic, I found so few moments of remote happiness. The few I could discern were all set in the same space — my former best friends’ apartment. At my worst, they let me “Stay”, allowing me to sleep on their couch until I felt I could brave the world outside their door once more.” explains Mackenzie

After the release of her debut album The Edge is the Spring of 2018, Mackenzie suffered a mental breakdown and fell into thoughts of suicide. Thankfully, she sought out help. “When my psychiatrist diagnosed me with bipolar I disorder, I felt a sense of relief” Mackenzie shared. This was the best news of my life.”

“Mackenzie rose from her blight stronger than ever before leaving behind a concept album for all of us who suffer… Mystic is more than a record, it’s a friend, a “You are going to be ok”, and the warm hug we all need when we go to the depths of our mind where drowning seems like the only option” – Ladygunn Magazine.

Mackenzie will be performing and sharing her story February 29th live at TEDx Ted Talk 2020. More information here: https://tedxuniversityofnevada.org/speakers/mackenzie-nicole/
