How did you guys come up with the duo name “Blue Honey”?

“We were deliriously tired on a road trip and just kinda came up with it!  We were trying to think of something that sounded bluesy and country and that’s what we picked.” – Kassie

Can you tell us a little something about each of you?

“Troy is a fantastic dancer!  Dancing, playing guitar, and making jokes pretty much sums him up haha!”  – Kassie

“Kassie would have 30 pets if I’d let her.  She loves animals, especially dogs. And especially yorkies.” – Troy

What inspired you guys to pursue music?

“I’ve been singing since I could talk.  It was never really a question as to what I would pursue when I was older.  It was always a thing with me.” – Kassie

“I started out playing guitar, and I would play alllll the time.  I’ve never loved doing anything else as much as that. The singing and songwriting came later.  The path just led me here to this duo and it’s been amazing.” – Troy

What is it like being in a duo with your wife/husband?

“We started dating when we had separate bands.  We didn’t want to be in a band together because we just thought that could get messy.  But when one of us would sit in with the other’s band, people really responded well. And it just worked.  So we decided to try it knowing that if it ever started to affect our relationship, we would be on the same page and go back to solo careers.  But here we are years later and it’s been great! Singing with Troy has always been so easy and natural. It was definitely meant to be. Relationship wise and musically!” – Kassie

How would you describe your musical style as a duo?

“That’s a tough question.  Someone at our Release Show recently said it’s like a mix of Fleetwood Mac and Sugarland.  I say add some Tedeschi Trucks and Little Big Town to that mix and you can find us somewhere in there.” – Troy

What artists do you guys look up to right now?

As far as artists putting out music right now, we both love Jason Isbell, Ryan Adams, Sturgill Simpson, John Mayer, Brothers Osborne, and Tedeschi Trucks

You guys just released an incredible full length album, called Sweet Rebellion. Can you guys tell us about how this album came about and the theme of the album?

We started out recording a 5-song EP but there were songs we just couldn’t let go of.  We noticed a lot of the songs kind of followed a theme from love lost, all the way to war-themed songs.  Whether it be about an internal war of rebelling or finding your freedom, or coping with a family member leaving for war, or just a common war of love but learning to live through it and come out stronger.  All in all bringing you to a “Sweet” Rebellion.

What has been your thought about the reaction of the new album?

It’s been overwhelmingly amazing.  This is the first project we’ve done where we 100% did what we wanted musically without worrying if we would “fit in” anywhere.  So we weren’t sure if people would get it. We weren’t sure if people would love it like we do. So to see the positive response has been the best feeling in the world.

Are their any other projects in the works you can tell us about?

We have a couple music videos in the works and some singles to follow so please stay tuned to www.bluehoneymusic.com!

Why do you think social media is so important for singers today?

Social Media is a great way to stay connected to fans and for them to have an insight into your life on and off stage.  We love hearing from them. It’s a good way to keep up with what the fans want to see or hear from you. For example, sometimes they’ll write us and ask for more acoustic videos, so we’ll go record some and post them.

How do you want your relationship to be with your fans?

Having that social media and live show interaction really helps to keep us going in the right direction because if we can’t make our fans happy, then we’re not happy!  We love to hear from them and staying as connected as possible. Our fans are our family.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years in your career and personal life?

“Career wise you never know!  We will at least be doing what we’re doing now, which is pretty great.  We are always looking to further our career. This is a wild industry so things change daily!” – Troy

“Right now we are pregnant with twin boys so our personal life will be WAY different in five years haha.  We might have a little future drummer and bass player hangin with us on the road!” – Kassie

How has this whole music career experience been?

We have seen some crazy things and been to some amazing places that we wouldn’t have otherwise been able to see.  We talk about this a lot. We have so many outrageous stories we don’t even remember them all. Sometimes a band member or fan will bring something up and we’re just like “whoa I totally forgot that happened.”  One word to describe a music career is “Crazy.” That’s all I can say haha – Kassie

Do you have any advice for aspiring music artists?

“Keep pushing.  We all think about quiting.  It’s a very emotional career choice.  You are constantly judged and told you’re not good enough.  Until all the sudden someone decides you are. You have to push and keep believing that you ARE good enough.  That you’re awesome. No matter what. If you believe it, others will too. And there lies your success.” – Troy

Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?

Thank you for sticking with us and showing so much love and support!  This has been a crazy ride and will continue to be! We are so lucky to have all of you on this journey!

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview 🙂

Thanks SO much for having us ☺
