Hey Juno!! So excited to be chatting with you. We are so excited to be premiering your new album!!! Can you tell us what this project means to you?
This project is a synopsis of the last 10 years of my life all wrapped up in 10 tracks. It means the whole world. This wasn’t just some project I “made up” I lived each and every one of these songs, and I am so proud to finally present them to the world!
What’s been your reaction to the fans anticipation for your new project?
They have been EXTREMELY excited!!! We have been counting down together for the last 21 days, so to be down to the day is surreal! The JUNEBUGS have had my back since day 1 and I could not do this without them!
How excited were you to get this project out into the world?
I will finally be able to exhale knowing that my baby is out into the world. It means so much to make music that is true to my heart and real life experiences and in a way I feel like this music and these experiences will be immortalized life lessons for generations to come!
What do you hope your supporters will think of the new music?
I think they will love it! I think they will be surprised about how personal and honest it is. I held back no punches. I’m hoping that hearing my pain will inspire someone else to know that they are not alone. Once I realized that no one was coming to “rescue me”, it empowered me to get up and change my own life.
Do you have a favorite song off the album?
DEFINITELY Oh, Diane. It is just the perfect blend of “JUNO” it’s got the R&B guitar, smooth Jazz trumpet, a banging bass line and of course I spit a lil rhyme on the joint too. It’s smooth, free and fun!
What’s up next for you after the release of this album? A tour maybe?
Yes, I will definitely be touring! I’m not waiting for the country to open back up. I’m in the midst of planning something real special for my fans that we can all participate in together from home! Shhhhh it’s a secret.
How do you want your relationship to be like with your supporters?
Like a homie. I love the JUNEBUGS so much and they hold me down through thick and thin. I mostly want them to look at me and get inspired to follow their dreams too. I believe in them just as much as they believe in me.
What’s something your fans don’t know about you?
That I used to live on a farm and milk cows. Yes, I’ve squeezed milk out of a cow’s nipple into a bucket.
What do you want your fans to know if they ever see you in public?
Don’t be shy. Let’s take a selfie. But tell me if there’s something in my teeth.
What do you want your message to be towards your fans? What do you want your fans to take away from your music and shows?
YOU have the power to create whatever life you want! I want people to leave my shows feeling like they can accomplish anything. You dont have to sit at home and admire someone else’s life from your phone, you can get up and create one for your self.
What’s one word you would use to describe what your fans have allowed you to accomplish?
FREEDOM!! I used to feel stuck in a box, but they have followed me on all my ventures and really allowed me to explore and branch out! I love that, its so much fun!
Is there anyone in the music business you are dying to meet?
Brandy. She was my favorite growing up and I would probably cry if I ever got to meet her. I used to belt her song “Sittin up In my Room” when I as in 3rd grade and I was in love with her movie Cinderella with Whitney Houston. She has been such a positive role model for black girls for as long as I can remember! To work with her would be a dream come true.
Why do you think social media is so important for artists like yourself?
It’s important to have a direct relationship with my fans. I dont ever want to feel like a puppet, listening to someone else tell me how to live my life and run my page. It puts the power back in the hands of the artist. At the end of the day, that is more valuable than anything else. For an artist to be able to freely express themselves. I believe that’s how the greatest art in the world is created. By artists feeling free and having the space to communicate and get their ideas out into the world. Social media is a direct diary and outlet for that.
What would you say is your biggest dream/goal right now?
To create music that lifts peoples spirits and challenge people to think outside of the box.
Any last things you want to tell your supporters?
I executive produced this album from start to finish. Wrote the songs myself and produced them one by one over the last 2 years. I believe that great things take time, and I hope you all check it out! As a Black, female, queer Artist…I want to inspire you to ignore any limits society tries to put on you. Put your best foot forward and listen to your own heart!
