Viral 16-year-old sensation Malachi Gagnon just released his hauntingly relatable new song “Think About Me” and it’s a must-listen. The small-town New Hampshire native introduces his musical odyssey in developing his sound while staying true to his roots and what attracted his fans to begin with.
Malachi Gagnon first discovered his musical talent during the pandemic in 2020. “When I was 12, I sang out loud in front of my family for the first time at an impromptu living room family talent show,” reflects Malachi.
With the support of his family, his dad took him to buy his first guitar the very next day, thus beginning a journey of writing songs and singing for the public. Soon thereafter, he gained traction for his country covers like Kameron Marlowe’s “Giving You Up” and pop-country tracks, including highly regarded songs “Psychopath” and “No Thanks To You,” setting the teen up for a full blown career in music.
Since the release of his first single “Craving Me” in 2022, Gagnon has amassed nearly 5 million streams on Spotify alone, and “Think About Me” is sure to send him over in no time. His first release of 2024, “Think About Me” takes a different approach musically than Gagnon’s prior releases, possessing an emphasis on folk-pop and alt-country. “I had written hundreds of songs and I felt like I kept being pulled in a more grounded, folksy/singer songwriter style with every song I wrote,” states Malachi Gagnon. “I started listening to Noah Kahan, The Lumineers, Gregory Alan Isakov and a few others who encompass that vibe and drew a ton of inspiration from them.”
Each verse builds lyrically and musically as if showing self-restraint diminishing. By the last chorus, the track is melodically dense and seemingly tense, as if Gagnon couldn’t control his emotions any longer. This dynamism makes “Think About You” a symbolic masterpiece and showcases Malachi Gagnon as not only a singer-songwriter, but a true artist.
