Hello Whitney 🙂 Hope You’re Doing Well!!

So, you started your music career at a very young age, what inspired you to be a singer?

I started doing musical theater in elementary school and after my first show, I knew performing was what I wanted to do with my life and I’ve been singing ever since.

What artists do you look up to right now?

I look up to Lorde for her music, lyrics and performance abilities, Allessia Cara for her message and music, and Twenty One Pilots for their deep lyrical content.

How would you describe your musical style?

I would say my music doesn’t fit one genre. I feel as though it’s alternative pop but other people have gotten hints of various musical styles while listening to it.

Your new EP, Iridescent , has been highly anticipated by your fans. What makes this EP special to you and what inspired you to create this EP?

Iridescent was SO much fun to create. I wrote these songs about different experiences i’ve had in my life, people i’ve known, or in hopes to help people. It takes on a bit of a more uptempo catchier vibe then my last EP and i’m really excited for fans to hear where my musical sound is going.

What was it like making the new EP?

Making the new EP was such a great experience. I worked in New York, Nashville and LA to record it. I met so many great musicians and people in the industry though it and everything about the process was just amazing 🙂

What song are you most proud of on “Iridescent”?

I’m proud of every song on Iridescent, but i’d say i’m most proud of ‘Idea Of Her.’ I wrote this song with the message of “what you see on the outside isn’t always what’s within.” I want people to hear this song/watch the music video and feel comfortable in their own skin and not feel the need to change who they are or their appearance to fit in.

Would you say this ep is your biggest accomplishment in your music career so far?

It’s definitely one of my biggest accomplishments and i’m excited to see where it goes and what it can do!

Did you have any moments while creating the ep that stood out to you?

One of my favorite moments was when my bass player, Tommy Sims, came into the studio to record the bass line for ‘Idea Of Her.’ He was so good and added so much to the song that the entire room of people listening started videoing him jam out on their phones. Everyone was so into it and at that moment it really hit me that this song was going to have major potential.

Did any artists style influence you on this project?

I wouldn’t say that any artists in particular influenced this EP. I wrote it with just myself and my sound in my head.

Would you say this ep is the same style as your old music?

This EP is somewhat along the same style as my old music but definitely better and more contemporary than my old stuff in my opinion. I feel as though I really grew since the last EP.

Do any of the songs off the ep come from personal experience?

Every single song I have ever written comes from a personal experience. I don’t think I could write a song that I don’t have a personal connection to or that doesn’t have personal meaning to me.

What is the meaning of the newest single “Idea of Her”?

Idea Of Her is about how some people try to hide who they are in order to fit in whether it’s wearing a lot of makeup, changing their style or even altering their personality.

Can you tell us how the music video came about for the single?

I was given a bunch of different concepts, but this one stood out to me. My director Miles had this vision of two different Whitneys. One trapped in a box symbolizing how one could feel trapped inside their own body, and one perfect Whitney who clearly doesn’t like acting perfect. As the video goes on, the box Whitney gets more annoyed with this fake person she is inside and finally breaks through the glass.

Are you planning to go on tour to promote your new Ep?

I hope to be an opener for someone this fall but this summer i’m performing as much as I can around.

Have you had a performance that has stood out to you?

My favorite performance was performing on the Today Show last year. I was Elvis Duran’s artist of the month and that was such an amazing surreal experience.

Are there any other projects in the works you can tell us about?

I’m constantly writing so you can expect new music to follow the release of the new EP 🙂

How do you want your relationship to be with your supporters?

I want my supporters and I to have a somewhat personal relationship. I always respond to fan messages and love talking to people who like my music. I want to inspire and help as many supporters as I can.

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected?

I use mainly Youtube to stay connected because I post covers which people really like. But i’m also on facebook and twitter @whitneywoerz and instagram @whitney.woerz

Have you had any crazy fan encounters?

Not really actually. All the fans I have met have been really cool and super nice.

Do you have any other talents other than singing?

Yes! I actually go to school in Manhattan for acting at Laguardia Arts High School. I also play the drums, the ukulele and i’m a great cook!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself doing exactly what i’m doing now but for more people. I want to continue to write music and perform. I really hope to inspire as many people as possible.

Thanks for answering our questions 🙂
