On October 23, 2016, Skechers hosted it’s 8th annual Pier to Pier Friendship Walk in Manhattan Beach, California. The Skecher’s Friendship Walk was started to help bring awareness to The Friendship Foundation. The Friendship Foundation is an organization that assists children with special needs and their families through one-on-one peer mentoring and social recreational programming. The funds raised at these events are for funding education foundations. They are working on retaining vital academic programs, maintaining smaller class sizes, improving libraries, and upgrading school technology. Together, with the Friendship Foundation, the walk has helped break barriers between children with special needs and typical kids by providing social programs in schools, within the community, and at home.

The event had a massive attendance, it’s largest to date, with 12,000 people taking part in the event. The event and it’s attendees raised 1.6 million dollars for children with special needs and education, a 200 thousand dollar increase from 2015. The walk boasted a large celebrity presence this year, including Brooke Burke-Charvet; legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard; model and entrepreneur Camila Alves; actor Ian Ziering; mother/daughter fitness icons Denise and Katie Austin; and Hall of Fame baseball manager Tommy Lasorda – Just to name a few.

The event also hosted amazing performances by Asia Monet Ray, New District, Jordyn Jones, & Aidan Prince. Aidan was the first to get on stage and perform. Aidan got up on stage and started his dance. He definitely helped the crowd wake up with his song choice and talented dance moves. Asia was the next to perform. She ended up singing Katy Perry’s hit song “Rise” and it was a huge success. She later came back on stage to sing the National Anthem. Everyone in attendance then went on the pier to pier walk. When they came back, New District got on stage and performed their two hit singles – “Closer” & “Ain’t Got Money”! (You can see their full performance on our YouTube Channel!) The last performer to go was Jordyn Jones, who sang her hit song, “Bruh”. Overall, it was a great day spent supporting an amazing cause and I can’t wait to be apart of it again next year.
