Hi Sarah! Great to have you here today!

Thanks! Glad to be here!

How do you balance artist life and normal life?

That’s a huge challenge for me. As a single mom, I have so much to juggle and the only way I can do it is to get up very early each morning. I workout, go over the schedule for the day, do my social media posting, and hit the ground running. The wee hours of the morning are when I’m at my best.

What do you see as the most important habits of successful people?

Making time for the people I care about is the most important part of my life and the key to my success. Having a strong, loving, supportive community doesn’t happen on its own. You have to build it and nurture it. I have the most wonderful friends who I speak with on the phone regularly. They are my coaches, my shoulders to cry on, my motivators. My family is also everything to me. Having community and taking the time to nurture those relationships is the most important habit I have.

What has been the biggest game-changer in your career thus far?

As a songwriter, community is also the game-changer. I moved to Nashville and became a single mom within months of moving here. I wasn’t sure who I was and where my life was headed at that moment, but on a whim, I attended the NSAI Spring Training event. My song was picked as Best of Spring Training and that meant that by the end of the week, I was playing at Tin Pan South, one of the largest songwriting festivals in the world. Instantly, I felt connected to the Nashville songwriting community, started to set up co-writes, and saw that songwriting would be the next phase of my creative journey.

What are the essential qualities that make up a good musician?

Hard work, mental toughness, tenacity, determination, and curiosity.

Is there an overall theme that you try to capture when creating new music?

I try to write from the depths of myself. I love a fun song that is carefree and easy, but my writing is more about the struggles and triumphs in life. I try to write songs that come from a very real place. If I do my job, my songs hit people in the gut, make them realize something that they hadn’t thought of before, make them feel inspired, or make them burst into tears. My theme is writing from my heart and my gut, I guess. Sounds cheesy but it’s true.

Two words to describe your style…

Clothes? Glam Comfort  Songwriting? Real but Hopeful

What does it mean to you, to be authentic?

Being authentic means feeling comfortable with exactly where I am at any given moment. Embracing and learning from the ups and the downs in life is my goal at all times.
