How did you guys become a band?

Mark and I were in a band called Reckless Serenade where we both played guitar. Once the band broke up, Mark called me and asked if I wanted to start a band with him. He told me he wanted me to sing and he wanted to do a completely different sound than what we’ve done in the past. – Rob

How did you guys come up with the name Moonwalker?

I draw a lot of inspiration from outer space and our goal as a band has always been to write songs that people can dance to so we wanted to find a name that represented both of those ideas. – Mark

What do you guys like about being apart of a band?

The collaboration writing wise. Mark is a very creative guy and he constantly sends me fire tracks that I am lucky enough to write vocals over. I love having a clean slate to write over because I can then bring a whole new perspective to the song. Our unique contrast of music and vocal style is what makes us, us. – Rob

Can you tell us a little bit about each of you?

I grew up listening to hip hop until around freshmen year of high school when I started to play guitar. From there I got super into all different kinds of rock music and started a band called Reckless Serenade. Towards the end of that band I started getting back into hip hop and electronic music which led me to start learning about using Logic and producing and to starting this band with Rob. – Mark

I started with being a huge rock fan but as I grew up, I’ve gained a love for all kinds of music. I think a lot of that is thanks to touring the country and meeting a ton of different people with different influences. I would say touring has had the most profound effect on my musical taste and my overall outlook on music. – Rob

How would you describe your musical style?

It’s hard to pin down exactly what we sound like but if I had to describe it, I would say it’s a mix of rock, hip hop, pop and soul. – Rob

What artists do you look up to right now?

Diplo and DJ Khaled are two people who really inspired me to start producing our own songs and to enroll in Full Sail University to learn more about audio engineering. Aside from their music I think the thing I take away most from them is their work ethic and how they talk about how anyone in 2018 can open up Garage Band and come out with a hit. – Mark

You recently released your debut single “Level Up”, what has been your thought about the reaction of the new single?

The reaction has been great so far! This is definitely the best response we’ve gotten from a single so far and it’s super reassuring because it’s the first time the public has heard our new sound. We can’t wait to show people what else we have in store. – Rob

Can you tell us the meaning behind “Level Up”?

Level up is a song about growing up. Growing out of innocence while not becoming jaded. As we get older, we realize we have to toughen up to get through this life. The song is also about making a choice. You can tackle your shit head on, or let it kill you. – Rob

How did the idea for this song come about?

We wrote the song almost a year ago and it started with Mark writing the music on Logic then sending it to the rest of the band. Sonically, it was pretty different from what we’ve done previously and it helped us gain a whole new direction for the rest of the album. – Rob

Any fun moments while creating the song?

This song really changed the way I wrote music. Originally I would pick up a guitar and just jam on chords to structure a verse and chorus based around guitar. With Level Up, I programed the synths and other elements in Logic first then I added the guitar. This song really opened up my eyes to the fact that I could write music on the computer without a guitar which has been the most fun thing I could’ve ever discovered. – Mark

Are you planning to perform your new song live anytime soon?

We’ve been playing it at shows for a while before we released it. However, we wrote a remixed version of the song that we plan on performing at our upcoming shows. – Rob

What does it feel like to perform your own music live in front of your supporters?

There’s no better feeling than to perform a song you wrote and love and to see other people react the same way that you do. – Mark

How do you want your relationship to be with your supporters?

We have a very hands-on relationship with our supporters. We don’t take it lightly when someone supports what we do and we love connecting with those people as much as possible. – Rob

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your supporters?

We use Instagram the most. Between regular posts and stories, it seems like the most accessible way to stay connected with the people who follow us. Instagram seems to be the most expressive platform as well. I feel like on there, we can really show our personalities better than we could on Facebook or Twitter. – Rob

Are there any other projects in the works you can tell us about?

We have a bunch of stuff already planned we’ve got more new music and music videos coming out this summer, we have a tour that’s about to be announced and an album coming out in September. – Mark

Do you guys have any last things you want to tell your supporters?

You guys are the shit and your support means so much to us. We have a ton of exciting stuff in store for you guys. Stay tuned and most importantly, stay righteous. – Rob
