Hey Lachi 🙂 So excited to be chatting with you!! You just released the music video for your bold new single “What I Want (Dat Body)” today & it’s amazing! What do you hope your supporters will think of the new song? & What do you hope they’ll get from hearing your new song?

First and foremost, I want people up and moving, feeling good and taking sips. But more than just waist-winding, the song’s about tearing down walls and stigmas, allowing yourself to go for what you want. And while I wrote it with a girl-power mentality, I’m hoping anyone hearing the song walks away feeling fierce.

Can you tell us the backstory of this song?

There’s been a wave of powerful women coming through on all fronts, whether it’s politics, entertainment or even local heroes. The lyrics to ‘What I Want’ was inspired by this wave. And though women have always been running things, the idea of assigning “itch-bay” to any powerful, confident woman is finally starting to take its toll. We’re walking in, we’re saying I want that, then we’re taking it.

You also have more music coming out in 2019!! Can you spill any details on what your supporters can look forward to?!?

I’m all about international collabs. Through Cloud 9, we’re linking up with Swedish producer Klave, to put out a breezy, summer track, and we’re also in talks with SONY Italy for a potential house track. And there’s a ton more coming through the pipeline.

What’s it feel like to be releasing your own original music?

All of my lyrics come from my experiences, struggles, lessons learned and lessons I’m still trying to learn. If I can make someone just straight-up feel good, even if just for three and a half minutes, with my words, then I’m set for life.

Is there anyone you want to thank that’s helped you get to where you are today?

I mean, the list can go on for pages. Definitely my mom first, for being a strong awesome woman who’s always been supportive; my way-back friends, my fam, my management team. The amazing artists who came before me and inspired me, as well as the amazing artists right now whose great music encourage me to be better.

What do you want your message to be towards your fans? What do you want your fans to take away from your music?

It’s all about that confidence, that self-love, that depth. When they tell you “be humble, sit down.” I’m here to say, know what you want with no compromising, and when your mind’s made up, go.

Are you planning any shows to promote your new music?

I’ll be performing May 2nd at the Bowery Electric in NYC alongside a host of other super talented artists.

What is it like performing in front of your fans?

For me, home is where the stage is. It’s one thing to watch Spotify plays go up; it’s another to experience your music with others and receive realtime synergistic love. It’s definitely spiritual. It’s definitely necessary.

What’s something your fans don’t know about you?

The first time I applied to NYU, I got a rejection letter.

What do you want your fans to know if they ever see you in public?

You’ll see me holding my phone super close, cause I’ve got pretty low vision; but I’m super approachable. I learned I can’t handle too much praise though. I start complimenting back all awkward like, “I love your latest single too!” And you’re like, “I don’t do music. In fact, you have no idea what I do.” And I’m like, “And your hair is just tops!”

Why do you think social media is so important for artists like yourself?

Me, I’m super active on social media. Apart from keeping up to date with what’s going on in the industry, it helps me keep connected with the people listening to my music. I’ve met some of the coolest people and/or worked out collaborations straight from a cold DM.

What would you say is your biggest dream/goal right now?

Well, it would really be to have crossed off what I thought was my ‘biggest dream/goal’ as step one.

Any last things you want to tell your supporters?

I am super grateful for and humbled by all the love and support! Look out for a ton of new releases this year. We’re just getting started.
