Hey Maiah! So excited to be chatting with you!! How excited are you that your new single is finally out into the world?
Thanks so much for having me. I am so thrilled this new single is out. It’s been in the works for over 3 years now.
Where did the inspiration for the song come from?
To be honest, it came from me being really pissed off at an ex who, while we had both been drinking, admitted he had cheated on me and had continued to womanize throughout our relationship. It had hit me that I was so done with trying to be a perfect, good and polite woman I wanted to throw out the notion that I wasn’t good enough just because of my partner’s toxic masculine behavior.
Any fun moments while creating/recording the song?
The song went through 4 different versions, but of course, about a month and a half before I decided to put it out, I STILL was trying to make changes. haha Thankfully producer Kyle McCammon was really cool about making those fixes in the final moments.
What do you hope your supporters will think of the new song?
I hope they will feel empowered by it and want to shout it when they are feeling low because EVERYONE is good enough. The response from my fans has been amazing so far.
What’s the process of writing one of your songs?
I have many processes. I always used to first write my songs on the piano, but I’ve recently started writing to beats and also writing with other people. I am forever evolving my process and sound and like to keep my creative door always open to new experiences.
Where did your love of music come from?
I’m not totally sure. I do know that I got out of preschool nap time by going and singing to other classes and that I would watch old musicals 4 times in a row. I remember knowing that I wanted to be a professional singer by the time I won a talent show at age 6 singing “Edelweiss” from Sound Of Music.
Will there be a music video for your new single?
It’s out! It’s called “DoLL” and follows modernized female archetypes throughout history.
Any other fun projects in the works you can tell us about?
I think my next song will be my very first full and happy love song. As an artist, those are the hardest to write and find the right words for. Really excited about it. It’s about feeling like you have known and been lovers with someone across many centuries.
Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?
I’m just getting started!
