What inspired you to pursue music?
I started listening to country music when I discovered the song “I’m Gonna Love You Through It”, by Martina Mcbride. I was 9 years old at the time, and my grandpa was battling stage 4 lung cancer. I instantly connected to Martina’s song, and realized how powerful music can be. That’s when I knew I wanted to change other people’s lives with my music the way Martina changed mine!
Can you tell us a little bit about you?
My name is Lexi Lauren, I’m a 16 year old country-pop singer/songwriter from California! My family moved to Nashville in May of 2017 for me to be able to chase my country music dream. I have an obsession with coffee, my labradoodle pup, and anything retro! I hope to be able to connect with people, and to touch others with my music 🙂
What artists do you look up to right now?
Oh my gosh, there are so many artists that I look up to! Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Julia Michaels, Halsey, Kacey Musgraves… the list could go on forever!
You just released your Christmas EP! Can you tell us about what this EP means to you?
It honestly means the world to me. This is my favorite time of year, and I’m really hoping to spread some holiday cheer with this new Christmas EP!
How did the single “California Christmas” get created? & Can you tell us the meaning behind the song?
“California Christmas” is about missing your hometown during Christmastime. Last year was my first Christmas being away from home during the holidays, and it felt so strange to be 2,000 miles away from everything that used to be so familiar! This song means so much to me, and I’m so excited for everyone to hear it!
What has been your thought about the reaction of the new EP?
The reaction of the new EP has been absolutely incredible! It can be nerve wracking, releasing new music into the world – but the response has been more than I could of ever imagined. I’m so thankful for all the support on this new music!!
Any fun moments while creating the EP?
We had a really fun time creating the video for “California Christmas”! It was filmed in Downtown Franklin and Downtown Columbia in Tennessee, and has a very “magical, festive, playful” vibe. You can watch it on Youtube now!
What song are you most excited to perform from this new EP?
Definitely “California Christmas”. I’m playing a show in Sacramento in a couple weeks, and I’m so excited to play all the songs off the EP – but I’m definitely most excited to play “California Christmas” for everyone back home!
What does it feel like to perform your own music live in front of your supporters?
I absolutely love getting to share my stories with the world through music, getting to meet new people, taking pictures and videos after the show… It’s the best feeling!
How do you want your relationship to be with your supporters?
My supporters are my friends! We message each other, snapchat each other, text each other, call each other… I even sent a couple of them private links of a couple songs off of the “California Christmas” EP, before it was released! From the very beginning, my goal has been to be able to use social media to connect with people, and to share my story in a way that hasn’t been done before. It feels like we’re one big happy family!
What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your supporters?
Definitely Instagram! I post on my IG story daily, I’m always chatting with supporters and friends, and I scroll through posts constantly… it’s definitely my most used social media platform!
Are their any other projects in the works you can tell us about?
I’m working on a lot of new music right now, and I definitely have plans to release some new tunes in 2019! I’m so excited to share with everyone what I’ve been working on!
Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?
Do what you love, don’t care about what other people think of you, and always – ALWAYS be yourself! And I love you all!
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with us.
