Hey Jacqueline!! So excited to be chatting with you. You just released your powerful version of True Colors!! Can you tell us what this song means to you?

The song delivers a timeless message encouraging honesty and authenticity. I feel that it has only becomes more important and relevant due to today’s times of rapid change and heightened uncertainty. My life has been unbelievably blessed by keeping this simple message at the forefront of my thoughts and actions and I believe that others could similarly benefit from the ideals.

What was it like working with American Idol David Hernandez on this project?

David is an extremely talented artist with an amazing vocal instrument. He was very passionate about the project and worked very hard to ensure that his authentic emotion exuded from every note. It was so inspiring and exciting to work with an artist like David Hernandez.

How excited were you to get this single out into the world?

I was so excited! The song was like a solitary shining star on a black sky. Since the Covid lockdown, there had been very little artistic collaboration taking place and I really missed that part of my life. This was my first opportunity to work creatively with another artist and I really worked hard to make the most of it.

What do you hope your supporters will think of the new song and video?

The original 1980’s song is lyrically, melodically and harmonically beautiful and has a loyal following amongst the older generation. The song was then reintroduced in recent years to a new and younger audience by the Trolls movie soundtrack. It was my hope that our version of the song and video would similarly resonate with and inspire a teen and millennial audience.

What do you want your message to be towards your fans? What do you want your fans to take away from your music?

I would like to encourage everyone to work toward achieving their potential as a person and always take pride in both who they are and what they hope to become. Music has the unique ability to evoke emotions and ideally my performances will inspire people to confidently pursue their own dreams.

Do you have any other release plans for 2020?

Yes! I recently released a cover version of Bob Dylan’s renown protest song Times They Are a-Changing, I am working with David on additional collaboration concepts as well as working with my band on some new song ideas. I believe that the post-lockdown period will be a musically prolific time and I can’t wait to jump right into the middle of that!

How do you want your relationship to be like with your supporters?

I hope that it will be a mutually beneficial relationship filled with appreciation and respect. An artist works for the benefit of their audience and the audience in turn inspires the artist to refine their talent and create new works of art. The contribution and influence of previous audiences is present in every great work.

What’s something your fans don’t know about you?

I have been writing and performing music since I was 5 years old but it was the choices that I made during my teenage years that ultimately led me down a path to success. Although you have to be willing to adapt to life’s ever changing circumstances, that should never cause you to abandon your true colors.

What do you want your fans to know if they ever see you in public?

Walk right up! I always want to hear from the audience. They are also welcomed to reach me via social media.

What’s one word you would use to describe what your fans have allowed you to accomplish?

Redemption. Over the years, my audience has given me the strength to battle the negativity that is so often present in the world and inspired me to allow my true colors to shine through. Even if it is only an audience of one, an artist can’t do it alone.

Why do you think social media is so important for artists like yourself?

Social media is a very powerful resource that is now readily available to the independent artist. It allows you to find and connect with a broad audience that would otherwise be unreachable. You have to take advantage of the positive and inspiring elements of social media, however, but also be careful to avoid the negative elements that can come with it.

What would you say is your biggest dream/goal right now?

An artist is always searching for their audience and the ultimate dream is to finally find and connect with them. With healthy interaction, the audience will inspire an artist to take their art to new levels of creativity. I am excited about the possibility of achieving this goal and producing the inspired music that it will generate.

Any last things you want to tell your supporters?

As the song says;

I see your true colors

And that’s why I love you

So don’t be afraid to let them show

Your true colors

Thank you for taking the time to do this interview with us 🙂
