Hey Guys!! Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves?

Krisalyn: Hi I’m Krisalyn from Girl Pow-R! I’m a singer from Ontario, Canada. I’m 13 years old and have always had a passion for music! I started professionally singing when I was about 10 years old and have loved it ever since.

Bella: Girl Pow-R’s sound is uplifting, confident, and captivating. Our job as a group is to inspire our generation to better themselves, become role models in their respective communities, and promote positivity through our music and social causes. It’s important for girls and women to lead the way in this area

Where did your love of music come from?

Carina: I sing and play instruments because I was born into a musical family and because nothing compares to the feeling I get when I’m performing and emotionally connecting with the lyrics in a song. I also love singing and finding harmonies to add to the intensity of a melody. Being able to inspire others through music is what inspires me!

Bella: I have always loved performing in school musicals, competing in vocal competitions, and playing the guitar!

Milana: I have loved music ever since I was little. I loved watching Hanna Montana and I always wanted to dance, sing and perform on stage just like her! Also, my older sister started playing the violin and piano at age 3 and, whenever she practiced, she inspired me to be just like her!

How did you guys all meet & become a band?

Kalista: We had a series of auditions to get into the band, some online and then in person, and some of us met there. We had a big first meeting where we met each other, and we instantly clicked!

Ava: We are an all-girl group that came together about 2 years ago and since then we have released 5 original singles that are available on all platforms. We love to perform and send out a positive message with our songs. We came together through an audition process and once we were selected we connected right away.

What’s the meaning of the name “Girl Pow-r”?

Carina: I feel that Girl Pow-R is a fitting name for our band because we are a strong group of girls who want to empower not only girls, but youth all over the world. We want to inspire others through the lyrics in our songs and through the messages in our social causes.

Krisalyn: The meaning behind it is to inspire girls through music and to help them find their Girl Power!

What has been your reaction to all the success you have been having?

Milana: For all the success that I have been having, it feels amazing and unreal! For example, Girl Pow-R has performed for The Spice Girls Wannabes (a tribute band), we have been on ETalk, TVO kids, YTV and been Youth Day Ambassadors which have all been such wonderful experiences!

Kalista: It’s honestly a dream come true. I remember watching Hannah Montana on Family Channel and wanting to become her, and now I get to be like her, performing all the time, and it’s awesome!

What do you hope to gain out of your music careers?

Ava: Music is something that has always been part of my life since I was very little. And singing has always been my favorite thing to do, so I definitely see myself pursuing a career in music.

Krisalyn: I always believe that if it’s meant to be it’ll be. I work hard and if things don’t work out the way you want them to, then it just wasn’t meant to be.

What was it like being named Global Ambassadors of The 2018 Toronto Youth Day?

Carina: Youth Day 2018 was so much fun! We had an amazing time performing as featured artists and talking about each of our social causes as Canadian Ambassadors. It is very important to us that we can use our careers and platforms, with opportunities like Youth Day, to promote positive messages and give young audiences a good role model to look up to. It is also super awesome that we can empower others while singing and dancing, which is what we do best!

Milana: Being named as Global Ambassadors of The 2018 Toronto Youth Day was such an amazing experience. We shared our Social Causes to the audience, which was very dear to us, and we also got to sing our original songs!

You guys just released your latest single “Never Let Go” via Tiger Beat & it’s gotten an amazing reaction from your supporters! What’s been your thought about the support for the new single?

Carina: We really appreciate the support we have received so far for “Never Let Go” and we are super thankful that Tiger Beat exclusively premiered the song. We think that this song is important to be heard by many, because it is about not letting go of your identity by trying to fit into the social norm.

Kalista: I’m happy people like this song because we really wanted to send a message across to everyone who listened to it.

What do you think is the benefit of having a following on social media in the music industry?

Bella: In today’s age, social media and music streaming services are very important to help us spread our message. Girl Pow-R is unique in its presentation of popular music, along with a deep sense of responsibility to support social causes in society. The determination that our band members have to spread the word about empowering girls and women to better themselves, and being charitable, is exceptional. By doing so, the boys and men in society see what is important to us and how we can best work together to support each other and have common goals of peace, harmony, equality and humanity.

Krisalyn: It can give more exposure and have more people looking at you to get you more known as artists.

Kalista: Most people are on social media, especially our target age group, and if they see us on social media they can see our updates on new song releases.

What’s the feeling you guys get when performing in front of your fans?

Milana: Whenever we perform in front of our fans, our adrenaline boosts up and we all get so excited when they sing, clap along, and dance with us!

Ava: Performing can be nerve wracking because it can get in your mind that everyone is watching you, but once you’re on stage doing what you love, then the butterflies go away, and the music takes over! It is amazing to see your fans singing to your songs and loving your performance.

Does your fanbase have a name?

Carina: Sometimes on social media we refer to our supporters as “lovelies” or “friends”! On YouTube, we are asking everyone to ‘join the POW-R WORLD’! We think showing the powerful side of yourself is so important, for everyone!! So, our fans are part of the Pow-R World!!

How do you want your relationship to be with your fans?

Kalista: I don’t like to use the word “fan”. I’d rather use friends, because friends support each other and that’s what our supporters do.

Carina: I would like our relationship with our fans to be like our relationship with our friends. I want the people who support us to know that they can come to us for advice, or if they want our opinion about something. They can always contact us on social media (@girl_pow_r on Instagram).

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your fans?

Ava: We have social media handles, so fans reach out on various platforms. You can find most of our activity on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Kalista: We mostly use Instagram because it’s easy to use and we can reach many people with it.

Krisalyn: We definitely use Instagram and TikTok the most.

What was the craziest fan encounter you guys have had?

Milana: The craziest fan encounter that we have ever had was at the Spice Girls tribute band performance. They held posters for us, sang along to all of our songs, and we had a humongous line-up to take pictures and sign autographs!

Krisalyn: I would say for me personally it was when we performed for my old school and everyone was swarming us and wanted autographs!

Will there be an ep/album out soon?

Milana: Soon all of our songs will be released on our EP album, so stay tuned!!

Krisalyn: Yes! We’re super excited!

Bella: I am thrilled to share that it is in progress. Girl Pow-R records originals and cover songs. We have already recorded a number of cover songs professionally, and are ready to launch our album soon … with six original songs. There are more originals being written and they will ‘go live’ as soon as they are finished.

What’s an average day for you guys look like?

Milana: An average day for Girl Pow-R: Rehearsals are first, dancing and improving our performance. Next, we have lunch and get ready for all of our vocals lessons, or either do Tik Toks. Then usually around 5’o’clock we start a live video!!

Ava: We are all regular girls like everyone else. We all go to school and have extracurricular activities we are involved in. We practice every Sunday as a group.

Where do you guys hope the band is in 5 years?

Carina: In 5 years I see our band touring internationally and inspiring people all over the world through our music and social causes. I also see us having a segment on television where we can talk about our social causes and the importance of making a difference in the world with our own individual footprint.

Ava: Hard to predict where we will all be in 5 years, but for now we are enjoying what we have together!

Do you guys have any last things you want to tell your supporters?

Bella: All youth experience difficulty in their lives: emotional, physical or psychological. Girl Pow-R is here to tell you that you are not alone, the storm will pass and you will emerge stronger and more able with every day that goes by.

Blowing out someone else’s candle doesn’t make yours shine any brighter.

Carina: I would like our fans to know that not only do we want to make pop-rock songs with inspiring lyrics and a catchy melody, but when our fans are going through a hard time they can use the lyrics in our songs to remind them that they are strong enough to get through it.

Kalista: Stay true to yourself and make every day count!
