You’ve been busy with music recently. Can you tell us what you’ve been up to over the past few months?

I’ve been constantly writing, recording in the studio, performing, AND, I’m so excited to say that my new single “Karma” is available everywhere now!!!

Where did your love of music come from?

When I was younger, my mom used to always have country music playing in the house. George Strait, Gretchen Wilson, Keith Urban, you name it! I was constantly singing, even in Walmart!!! My music taste changed when I was about 8 years old, once I discovered Hannah Montana… yup, shocking. I learned all of the songs played on the show, and I’d even sing them at our family reunions! I started taking singing and writing seriously when I was 12, after attending a songwriters camp here in Texas called Real Life Real Music. I’ve been hooked ever since!

What has been your reaction to all the success you have been having?

It’s absolutely INSANE! To me, I’m just an average 18 year old girl who plays video games and is obsessed with memes. Whenever I get to see/hear people’s reactions to my music, it’s the best feeling in the world.

What do you hope to gain out of your music career?

Connecting to as many people as I can through my music is the ultimate goal! If someone doesn’t know how to explain how they feel or if they feel alone or misunderstood, I want to be the one who has a song they could possibly relate to or that could give them even a sliver of hope.

You are currently working on your second album 🙂 How did the idea for this new album come about?

These past couple of years have been some of the craziest years of my life. I tend to bottle up a lot of emotions and thoughts, and through songwriting and recording I’ve learned how to express myself and how I feel. It’s like a huge weight is being lifted off of my chest! I’ve also grown a lot not only as a human, but as an artist too. It’s crazy to see how much confidence I’ve gained in my voice along with the way I present my message.

Can you spill any details about the new album?

It’s a literal word vomit of all the emotions and experiences I’ve had over the past couple years or so!! All of the songs I wrote by myself, so it’s very personal, and I’m SO excited for y’all to hear it. My new single Karma really sets up the vibe for it, so it’s definitely different from my debut album.

Have you had any fun moments while creating the album?

In between takes, I sometimes just stand there really awkwardly and don’t know what to do, so I start singing impressions of Britney Spears and Rick Astley. I know it makes absolutely no sense. That’s the whole point!

What’s the process of writing one of your songs?

I honestly don’t really have a set process! I just go with the flow, and whatever happens happens. It can be 2am, and I’ll write like a song or two while I’m half asleep, just because I usually get a tsunami of lyrics that pop into my head. Deliriousness for the win!!!

What’s been you favorite song to write and why?

16442733532% Karma!!!! It’s my most honest and straight forward song I’ve ever written, and I connect with the general message of the song more than any other song of mine.

You have a few art shows coming up in a month, What have you been doing to prepare for them?

Putting together setlists, figuring out when to throw in a dad joke or two (thanks to my awesome friend and cajon player, Andrew, for those amazing pieces of art), picking out outfits to wear- all of the important things!

What’s your favorite part about performing?

I love watching everyone’s reactions from the stage, as well as talking to them after the show!!! It makes me so happy, and I’ll never take it for granted.

What song are you most excited to perform from this new album?

Is “all of them” a decent answer? LOL

What does it feel like to perform your own music live in front of your supporters?

It’s always so much fun! Especially when they know the words- it shocks me every time!

Does your fanbase have a name?

At the moment it doesn’t! I was thinking of using Coleprits, but what do y’all think?

How do you want your relationship to be with your supporters?

I want it to be like we’re all friends! You have memes? I will GLADLY accept your catalog of saved memes as a friendship application.

What was the craziest fan encounter you have had?

If you mean crazy in a good way, I’ll definitely have to say whenever people draw photos of me and send them to me, either through social media or in person! It’s so cool. There are so many talented people out there, and I’m literally shook every time!!!

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your supporters?

Instagram! If you message me or comment saying you’re a fan, or you saw me at one of my gigs, I’ll follow you back and respond. I love connecting with people. I also have a Facebook music page which posts all my upcoming shows. But, Instagram is my favorite.

What’s an average day for you look like?

Well, I love to sleep, so I sleep in a little bit. Obviously, I shower and brush my teeth, wash my face, all of the necessities. Then I usually play some video games for a little bit or help clean around the house, clean up my room, the basic stuff. When I get hungry, I eat, because who doesn’t love food? If I’m not in the studio, I usually start to get ready for my gigs, or I get ready to go to work (I have a part time job at urban outfitters!). That’s usually about it, because after I leave my gigs or work, I just go home and wind down a little bit before I go to sleep again. Lots of sleeping, apparently.

What goals have you set out for yourself in your career and in your personal life?

To reach as many people as possible through my music.

How has this whole music career experience been?

Amazing!!!

Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?

Thank you for all your support! Be sure to follow me on Instagram, @emilycoleofficial.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with me.
