Hey Asher, you started your acting career at a very young age, what inspired you to try acting?

I was inspired to start acting by my mom. She was an actress. Also, after seeing my first show at Desert Stages Theatre in Arizona I decided to start doing musical theatre. After the show, I asked my parents if I could audition and it has been a whirlwind since then.

I am inspired by so many talented actors. But currently, my greatest influences are Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Stone, Robert De Niro and Jennifer Lawrence.

You are known for your role on the Disney series “Andi Mack”. Can you explain the process of how you got this role?

It all started with the very first audition. For Andi Mack, I was originally called to audition of Cyrus. Following that audition, I was called back to audition for Jonah Beck. There were a series of call backs that followed and then testing with the executives down at Disney HQ.

I play Jonah Beck. The coolest kid at Jefferson Middle School. He is the captain of the Ultimate Frisbee team and Andi’s crush.

What do you think makes this show standout from other Disney shows?

There are so many great Disney shows on TV. I think what distinguishes our show from the others is that we have Terry Minsky, her writing team and Michelle Manning. Terry and her team bring fresh and creative content that is relevant to kids our age. Michelle makes sure everything is executed at a very high level; with so much love and so much support. Lastly, we have our cast. Best friends on and off the screen. I am so lucky to take this journey with people that I love, trust and admire.

Since getting the role, you must get recognized in public a lot more. What was that change like for you?

It has been a big change, but it is really great. It reminds me how much people are connecting to both the show and my character in the show.

What’s an average week like on set?
