Hey Dani! So excited to be chatting with you!! How excited are you that your new single is finally out into the world?

I’m so happy to be chatting with you too! It is so amazing to have this new single out. I wrote Dance almost three years ago and it has been through multiple recordings and many acoustic shows so I’m excited that it’s finally out in its final form.

Where did the inspiration for the song come from?

Shortly after moving to Nashville, I became really good friends with a woman who had recently lost her husband to cancer. She and I just instantly clicked and we were able to be there for each other through some of the hardest times in our lives. As I watched her grieve and figure out how to live through her pain, I was inspired by her will to keep going and to live like he would want her to. The idea to “keep dancing” came from the two of them dancing together the day they met, from her being a former ballerina, and from the two of us spending countless nights dancing and remembering her husband.

Any fun moments while creating/recording the song?

The first time I was able to play the song for my friend was the anniversary of their engagement day. Being able to witness how much it meant to her and that my cowriter, Craig Lackey, and I had really captured a beautiful love story was so special and rewarding. We write music to touch people, and it was clear we had done that.

What do you hope your supporters will think of the new song?

I hope they will find inspiration in it. The message of the song is that even when it feels impossible, you have to keep going, keep living, and keep dancing. That’s what our loved ones who have passed would want for us.

What’s the process of writing one of your songs?

I typically cowrite my songs and work with a bunch of different songwriters around Nashville. When I go into a writing session, I generally have an idea of what I want to write about that day, whether it’s what I’m currently going through, a title of a song I thought of, or a melody stuck in my head. If I don’t have something specific, my cowriter(s) and I will throw out lines or titles we’ve got written down in our “hook books” until something sticks for all of us. Then we just write it, usually starting with the chorus, following with the verses. We can usually complete a song within 3-5 hours.

Where did your love of music come from?

When I was a little girl, I was obsessed with Shirley Temple. I had all of her movies, including the sing-along. I memorized all the songs and dances. I told my parents I was going to all of that someday. So they put me in theater, dance, and voice. Growing up, I loved to listen to powerful female vocalists, like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Reba, Celine Dion, Leann Rimes, Shania Twain, and the list goes on. It was just always a part of me.

Will there be a music video for your new single?

Actually, we just filmed it today! There will first be a lyric video, then a full music video. I am so excited for everyone to see it. It’s going to be very powerful!

Any other fun projects in the works you can tell us about?

There’s always something! I have a few more songs I really want to record and start releasing single by single in the beginning of next year. So stay tuned!

Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?

I am so grateful to everyone for listening to this song. It is so special to me, and I’m happy it is being played and shared! Thank you so much!
